The nominees for this year's Game Awards have finally been announced! It's been a spectacular year for the art form, and we're dying to see what games the jury will reward for their excellence. Game of the Year sees The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, [Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain](tag:2683985), and Super Mario Maker, go head to head for the ultimate prize. But which game has your vote?

It's a difficult choice between these champions, however, when it comes to the Sports category I can see only one winner. This year we see FIFA 16, PES 2016, NBA 2K16, Forza Motorsport 6, and Rocket League fight it out for the Best Sports or Racing Game Award. As you take a look at this list, can you see which title has the most potential to walk away with the coveted accolade? Which has your vote? Cause this is definitely ours!

Best Sports Game: FIFA 16 Doesn't Stand A Chance Against Rocket League

Rocket League
Rocket League

Rocket League WILL walk away with the Best Sports Game award, and it could even claim best Independent title along with it- it's that good! I'm still taking breaks from Fallout 4 in order to play a few games every now and then. And now that the indie title has free modifiers that completely change the way you play, it's actually gotten better! This game should be up for more awards in my opinion, and there's no way that anything else could top it in this category.

In fact, I don't think FIFA 16 would have won against PES 2016 were Rocket League not in the mix! PES is a superb football sim, one that has actually convinced me to buy a new football game shortly after its release. I've been content with picking up cheaper and older versions of football sims for a while now - PES 2016 has completely changed that for the better. How can FIFA 16 stand up against these odds?

Will FIFA Ever Grab Best Sports Game Again?

With PES becoming increasingly better with every year, could we ever see FIFA eclipse its former glory? The game feels stagnant after so many releases; releases that see minor changes that don't warrant purchasing a new installment in a yearly franchise. Last year we saw Mario Kart 8 take Best Sports Game, and we couldn't agree more! Now it seems that FIFA is destined to lose again this year. Rocket League has to walk away with the award; otherwise there's no justice to be found in this world.

We'd love to hear your opinion on this crazy little indie game and the state of FIFA 16 in the comments below!
