In a recent interview, Karl Slatoff, Company President of Take Two Interactive, revealed that the various developers they collaborate with are busy with new IPS and new installments of well-established franchises.
"Our worldwide development teams are working on numerous unannounced projects, including new intellectual properties, and offerings from our established franchises."
This is something that you'd expect from the various developers they oversee, such as Rockstar (creators of Grand Theft Auto), Gearbox Software (creators of Borderlands), Firaxis Games (XCOM: Enemy Unknown), and Irrational Games (BioShock: Infinite). However, Slatoff also revealed that 2016 was going to see the release of a new, unannounced project. What could it be? A new IP? Or the return of a beloved franchise?
Take Two Confirm New Game For 2016
It's difficult to be excited about the prospects of a new IP - we've no idea what to expect. But in saying that, Take Two are working with some of the best developers in the world on what could become the next big thing. Perhaps one of their IPs will become the next Bioshock! For now though, we can only speculate as to what kind of sequels are coming our way. Thankfully, Take Two are attached to some of the most beloved ones.
I still remember the first time that I saw BioShock. I arrived at a friend's house to find her deeply enthralled with a new game I'd never heard of. I sat down next to her as I watched her traverse the terrifying halls of Rapture. The weapons she was using were beautiful, the powers alluring. BioShock is one of the greatest franchises in modern gaming, with BioShock: Infinite being one of my favorite games of all time. Therefore, how could I not think of BioShock 4?
Of course, I'm scared of the franchise running out of ideas and becoming stale like so many others. But if Irrational Games are prepared to return to the IP following Infinite, that's fine with me! But is this the game that 2016 will see?
GTA 6, Red Dead Redemption 2 & More
If this game is due to come out in 2016, I think it's safe to say that it's not a new IP. Publishers take a long time to promote new property, after all, a lot of hype has to be built up before its inevitable release date. Therefore, we can't help but think that 2016 will see the return of a Rockstar franchise.
Bethesda showed every developer the greatest way to promote a game, especially one as highly anticipated as Fallout 4. Therefore, we feel like Rockstar could be preparing for something similar with the return of Red Dead Redemption. GTA 6 seems far less likely than a return of their stellar Western series, though. The next Grand Theft Auto is years away from our grasp, but that might not be the case with Red Dead Redemption 2.
So, what do you think Take Two's secret game is? Could we see the return of one of our beloved franchises? Or is it simply a new IP on the horizon? Let us know what you'd like it to be in the comments! After all, we could have another [L.A. Noir](tag:865020) on our hands.
