“Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore... Darkness there, and nothing more.” - Edgar Allen Poe (The Raven)
New Scottish indie horror 'The Unkindness of Ravens' just got its first trailer...and it's INSANE!
Director Lawrie Brewster describes the movie as 'a cross between Apocalypse Now and The Evil Dead' and we can see where he's coming from. Bloody, brutal and gloriously weird, this is definitely one to watch.
Written by Sarah Daly, the movie tells the story of a homeless veteran plagued by flashbacks of a traumatic event he witnessed while serving in the armed forces. He travels to a retreat in the remote Scottish Highlands hoping to overcome his fear of ravens, the dark creatures that populate his visions, but, in the bleak wilderness, his nightmares manifest into an enemy more powerful than he could ever have imagined...the demonic Raven Men.
The movie stars Jamie Scott Gordon, an up-and-coming Scottish actor who also appeared in the director's critically acclaimed first film Lord of Tears. According to Brewster, Scott Gordon 'threw himself into a mental abyss in order to play such a disturbed and challenging role.' Judging by the trailer, we'd have to say that sounds about right.
To promote the movie, Brewster unleashed his Raven Men on the unsuspecting Scottish public in a pretty insane prank video, and the results are both disturbing and hilarious. If you live in Scotland, I'd suggest not going outside for a while...or maybe ever again.
The most terrifying prank EVER
Right now, the filmmakers are running a Kickstarter campaign to raise the cash needed to finish the movie. If you want to support indie horror and see this wonderfully weird movie get out there, head on over and help them out!
