BEWARE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU!!!
Like a majority of the Walking Dead fandom, Daryl has a special place in my heart. I've been a huge Norman Reedus fan for years starting with my obsession and love with The Boondock Saints.
Robert Kirkman has this amazing ability to write character growth in a very organic subliminal way. I've been re-watching the entire TWD series on Netflix and I noticed these small changes in the characters, such as Daryl correcting Merle that Glenn is Korean not Chinese. At the beginning of the series Daryl would have been a little racist d-bag alongside his brother. With small corrections to his behavior, and the longer he is without Merle's terrible influence, Daryl has become the heart and soul of Rick's group.
With the news of Norman Reedus' signing contract with AMC for his new show to tour the USA on his motorcycle with guest celebs; everyone is in a frenzy with dark fan theories that our beloved Mr. Dixon is going to meet a gruesome end...and soon.
Honestly, I feel like Daryl Dixon is the soul of TWD. Not just Rick's group but the entire show. While I do love other characters that I would hate to see die off (Rick, Michonne, and Carol), I would give up every single one of them before I ever accept letting Daryl parish.
The most common fan theories are that (if Glenn is actually dead) Daryl will most likely be the one to suffer Glenn's comic book death. RK and Scott Gimple have stated that even if a character does not get the death they did in the comics, the method of how their comic book self died will still be played out with another character. Ex: In the comics it is Tyreese that the Governor beheads with Michonne's katana, but in the TV series it is Hershel that gets this death. [I also have a theory about Lori's comic book death vs Maggie now that she's pregnant but that's another theory for another article.]
Let me just clarify how terrifying this would be: Glenn in the comics is beaten to death, in front of Rick and Maggie, with a barbed wire baseball bat (named Lucille) by the next big bad - Negan! Negan literally beats Glenn's head in until his left eyeball is practically hanging out of his socket and his face is unrecognizable.
I really, really, REALLY hope that this isn't the case. Losing Daryl among the group members would really be like tearing the soul out of the group. As a big Daryl fan, I'm not sure how much I would still care about the other characters' safety after that. For one, Daryl is Rick's last line of defense for Rick's sanity. Rick's psyche - since Lori's death - has done nothing but develop crack after crack and Daryl is the only thing keeping his head from pulling a San Francisco 1989. When Rick wants to stop looking for new people for Alexandria, Daryl straight up tells him that's the wrong way to go, and Rick listens to him.
I'm not going to lie, there is a TON of evidence pointing to Daryl's incoming death (the way he went back for that trio last week putting himself at risk to help them, anytime a character becomes the group's conscious - they're killed off [Tyreese, Herschel, Beth, etc.], Norman Reedus has a ton of movies and his new TV show to juggle now, and Negan is going to have to kill someone that's really going to hurt our hearts. Which for me, and nearly everyone I know, the only person that's really going to make us ugly cry if they bite it - is Daryl Dixon.
