This weekend marks the 25th anniversary of one the most influential games consoles ever produced: The Super Nintendo. Launching in Japan on November 21, 1990, the SNES took the world by storm, ushering a whole generation of memorable characters into living rooms across the world, where they can still be found (albeit in 3D polygonal forms) to this day.

As we've grown up over the years, smoothening out our rough edges, so too have these characters, evolving into graphically stunning creations that are still recognizable as the pixelated sprites we first met a quarter of a decade ago. To celebrate this momentous birthday, let's take a look at just how far our favorite SNES characters have come...
