I love all things zombie and having suspense drawn out to build up tension. I like out right jumps and i appreciate a good scare.

In 1995, Mortal Kombat fever was high! It was one of the biggest games of its time and fans rejoiced when news came of a movie. Speculation about how the characters would be portrayed in the movie were all that fans were worried about. With legendary in-game characters such as Scorpion, Sub Zero and Kitana, the fans were eager to see these characters being brought to life. A movie was the next logic step in the evolution, given how popular the game Mortal Kombat was.

However, the film was terrible. Fans everywhere were disappointed by the terrible effects and the horrific story line of the movie, which was basically martial arts tournament of Earth's best fighters vs. great fighters from other realms. This should have made the film awesome. But it didn't.

The acting in the movie was also terrible, the main character Liu Kang, played by Robin Shou, was dreadful. The character Kitana, played by Talisa Soto was also portrayed terribly.

The film makers cast Christopher Lambert as the Legendary Rayden (above centre). This was a good move, as at the time he was a very sought after actor, due to Lambert's recent success in movies such as Highlander ("There can be only one..!"). However, even this well known actor couldn't save the movie from being terrible.

The scene is set for movie makers to try again, though! With the recent release of Mortal Kombat X, a new generation of fans has been created and the world deserves a good Mortal Kombat movie.

The story of realms battling each other in a tournament, with today's modern special effects, could be epic! That would lead to the vital question of who should be cast for the characters? Here is what my choice would be!

Liu Kang

Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan

My choice for the lead character/fighter would be Jackie Chan. Not only are his acting skills amazing, but he also has some amazing choreography skills too. In movies such as Shanghai Noon and Rush Hour 1,2 and 3 he demonstrated some very complex moves that I feel would help with Mortal Kombat's fighting scenes, as they can seem a little CGI at times.

Kitana

Eva as Kitana would be epic.
Eva as Kitana would be epic.

Eva Mendez would be my choice for Princess Kitana in the movie. She has a sultry look which is part of the charm with Kitana. Eva's acting skills have been demonstrated in movies such as 2 Fast 2 Furious and The Other Guys. She has an amazing sense of what is sexy and can use that to help bring the character of Kitana to life.

Raiden

Sir Leonard Nimoy
Sir Leonard Nimoy

My choice for the wise Lord Rayden would (of been) the late Sir Leonard Nimoy. I believe he would have made an exceptional Rayden. However, now, it would have to be Sir Ian McKellen .

Of Course...
Of Course...

Ian McKellen would make a fantastic Rayden. He has played characters quite often that are wise and show leadership, such as Gandalf in the Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings, and as Magneto in the X-men saga. I for one, do not doubt that Ian McKellen would be a mighty force to be reckoned with!

Sonya Blade

Kristen would make Sonya cool again!
Kristen would make Sonya cool again!

I think Kristen Stewart is an amazing actress, and her portrayal of her characters is quite raw, and that is a trait that Sonya Blade should have. There should be a rebellious nature in her fighting style and although Bridgette Wilson did a great job, I think Kristen Stewart would do the character more justice. In the Twilight Saga, Kirsten already showed us her acting and her fighting too. This would lift Mortal Kombat's reputation instantly, in my opinion.

Johnny Cage

Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt is Hollywood's golden boy at the minute. He is one of the most successful actors of his time and has appeared in iconic movies such as Jurassic World and Guardians Of The Galaxy. In the movie Guardians Of The Galaxy he does some hand-to-hand combat and I am sure he would make a great Johnny Cage. Johnny Cage's character is hot-headed and a bit reckless and I think Chris Pratt could not only bring that character to life but make it loved by many new fans who would of usually have never watched this movie, but his star appeal would change that.

Scorpion

An awesome Scorpion
An awesome Scorpion

Vin Diesel would be perfect as Scorpion! With most of Scorpion's face covered in a yellow mask, his arms are the thing you see the most, and Vin definitely has impressive arms! He has also starred in movies such as The Fast And The Furious and Pitch Black Saga where he showed of his fighting ability. These 2 things in my opinion would make him a very cool and terrifying Scorpion.

Sub Zero

Sub Zero?
Sub Zero?

I think Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnston would make an amazing Sub Zero! As with Scorpion, most of Sub Zero's face is covered in a blue mask and therefore his arms are the main feature. The Rock definitely has massive arms. Having starred in movies like Pain and Gain and the Fast And The Furious, Dwayne's acting ability makes him an ideal candidate for this character!

Kano

Kano?
Kano?

I think Jason Statham would make an excellent Kano. There is a certain dominance that is protruded whenever Jason Statham performs. He has starred in many amazing films including The Transporter series and Fast and Furious 8. In both these films he has demonstrated his fighting and choreography ability and this makes him ideal to play Kano.

Reptile

Bane as Reptile?
Bane as Reptile?

Tom Hardy would make a brilliant Reptile. As with Scorpion and Sub Zero, he has a costume that covers his face with a green mask. However, as demonstrated in The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy can still act exceedingly well despite having his face masked. His ability to play multiple characters, from Bane to Reggie Kray, would help bring a depth to Reptile's character.

Shang Tsung

He could Shang?
He could Shang?

Keanu Reeves is who I would pick to play Shang Tsung in a reboot of Mortal Kombat. Keanu has a great ability as an actor to fit into whichever character is needed. For example in Much Ado About Nothing he is a villain, in the Matrix he is a savior and in Constantine he is not really a villain or a hero. His portrayal in The Devil's Advocate was impressive and showed us a more complex side of Keanu, and this is part of the reason why I fully believe that he would make an excellent Shang!

That is who I would pick for a reboot of Mortal Kombat! These actors and actresses would make the movie infinitely better. When the film starts and the words "Mortal Kombat" are screamed, you should get a rush of adrenaline that stays with you throughout the movie! I wish there was a reboot now, just to see what this cast would bring to the Mortal Kombat realm!

What do you think though? Can you think of another actor or actress who would suit one of these or another role better? Let me know in the comments section! Until next time folks-Ciao!
