The Fallout game series is home to a number of different factions, each with their own unique traits and goals. From rebuilding the US Government to the preservation of pre-war technology, these factions set out across the Wasteland to enforce what they believe is right.

Fallout 4 brings with it numerous new and old factions that operate within the Commonwealth, with the player choosing to support or combat them. But what do all these factions support? And more importantly, what kind of weapons and armor do they give us? Well, here's everything you need to know about the factions in Fallout 4.

Atom Cats

Well...yeah!
Well...yeah!

These Wasteland greasers only have one thing on their mind: tricking out suits of Power Armor. And trust me, they know how to make that hulking suit of metal look flashy! All you have to do is drop past the Atom Cats Garage with your Power Armor in tow and they'll give it a nice new coat of paint. Heck, you can even buy a Power Armor frame and pieces that already have the Atom Cats's paint job on it. Once you don that sweet set of steel, everyone will remember your name!

Brotherhood of Steel

Did somebody say 'air support'?
Did somebody say 'air support'?

The Brotherhood of Steel is the most well-known faction in the Fallout games, mainly through the use of their symbolic Power Armor and laser rifles. Led by Elder Arthur Maxson, they are one of the major military forces in the Commonwealth. Their overall goal is to use their advanced technology to eradicate mutants and prevent further abuse of any technology by the people of the Wasteland. With countless numbers of loyal soldiers, access to Vertibirds and the Prydwen airship, as well as being supported by the colossal Liberty Prime robot, there's nothing that can stand in their way!

Children of Atom

And you didn't think the Glowing Sea was inhabitable.
And you didn't think the Glowing Sea was inhabitable.

Another faction that was seen in Fallout 3, the Children of Atom are a fanatical group who worship anything relating to nuclear power. Believing that atomic power is the work of their god, Atom, they seek to spread Atom's influence through the use and worship of nuclear devices. They also view ghouls as "Atom's forsaken," or prophets of Atom, where they must spread the word of Atom around the world—less they become feral ghouls. Welp, at least they have a glowing outlook on life in the Wasteland!

The Institute

You are human...right?
You are human...right?

Known as the "boogeyman of the Commonwealth," the Institute is a highly secretive organization that has developed advanced technological wonders. Heck, no one even knows where they're located! Known for their construction and deployment of Synths (or synthetic humans), they've been feared and hated by many people within the Commonwealth, as well as attracting the unwanted attention of the Brotherhood of Steel. But who knows? There might be more to them than meets the eye!

Minutemen

Protect the people at a minute's notice.
Protect the people at a minute's notice.

This ragtag band of Wastelanders aims to make a difference in the Commonwealth by protecting the people at the drop of a hat. Armed with laser muskets and strong wills, they're ready to help any and all people from the threat of super mutants, feral ghouls, and any other hazards that plague the Commonwealth. No matter where you are, the Minutemen will always have your back. Plus, what's better than a castle and long range artillery?

Railroad

Just follow the Freedom Trail!
Just follow the Freedom Trail!

The Railroad is an underground organization based off the Underground Railroad during the American Civil War. Their goal is to free Synths from the Institutes control, as well as assisting runaway slaves. They're known to go to extremes to ensure the escape of captives, even getting facial reconstruction surgery for Synths. And better yet, they're armed with power railway rifles that fire railway spikes! With it, you too can make your own living voodoo doll!

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed learning about the different factions in Fallout 4. Now you have everything you need to know to make friends and enemies in the Commonwealth. Or you can just blow everything up—who needs friends when you have mini nukes!
