This year, Angelina Jolie has been very outspoken about her health issues, and the procedures that she has had to ensure that her risk of ovarian cancer is obliterated. Two years ago, she even wrote a piece for the New York Times, revealing her decision to get a double mastectomy and has recently spoken out about the removal of her ovaries.
Just earlier this month, Angie appeared on the Today Show with husband Brad Pitt, talking about how her surgeries triggered early on-set menopause, saying:
"Every woman is different when they go through menopause, and… I didn’t know emotionally how I would feel. I knew the breast would be a bigger surgery and physically changing. The ovaries is more, your hormones changing and your emotions changing, but it’s different. You feel different.”
Menopause is a transformative condition that all women experience as they age, when approaching the end of their reproductive period. During this time, many women relate symptoms of hot flushes, overheating and dramatic mood swings.
"I actually love being in menopause"
Yet, in Angelina's case, it seems that she has gotten off pretty lightly! She recently admitted to the The Daily Telegraph that for her, the experience has actually been rather enjoyable:
“I actually love being in menopause. I haven’t had a terrible reaction to it, so I’m very fortunate. I feel older, and I feel settled being older. I feel happy that I’ve grown up. I don’t want to be young again.”
Good for you, Angie!
Aging is also an issue for her character in latest release By the Sea, starring Brad as her on-screen husband. Here's the trailer:
