Barry continues to train to get faster so he can defeat Zoom. Well's thinks that he has not made any progress and works on something to do so. Vandal Savage arrives in Central City looking to kill Priestess Shiera, who turns out to be Kendra, though she doesn't remember any of it. He swiftly kills the men who have brought him there and shows off his great strength, combat skills and enhanced speed. Barry, Patty and Joe are investigating evidence from the scene and Barry deduces that it was the work of one man. Cisco and Kendra are having a date at Jitters when Vandal shows up. Cisco alerts Barry and he saves them before Vandal can kill them. Cisco accidentally reveals Barry's secret to Kendra and they have no choice but to tell her everything. Barry goes to Star City and enlists the help of Oliver and his team to protect Kendra until they can stop Savage. He saves them after an attempt in stopping Damien schemes results in Oliver nearly dying. Back at Oliver's apartment, everyone tries to catch up with one another when Vandal breaks through the window. Barry uses his super speed to catch the daggers Vandal throws, then equips Oliver and Thea with their bows. Vandal proves to be a formidable foe, being fast enough to block the arrows with a fan and defeating Oliver in hand to hand combat. He is overwhelmed by everyone attacking him and is seemingly killed by Thea after falling all out the window. HIs body is nowhere to be found. The team is visited by Malcolm Merlyn who informs them that Savage is an immortal who cannot be stopped. Later, Kendra is kidnapped by a winged man, but is rescued by Barry and Oliver who capture her captor. The man is Carter Hall, who tells them he was Prince Khufu in ancient Egypt and that he and Kendra are soulmates who have been connected for 4,000 years. The pair are destined to die, be reborn, and find each other in each lifetime. Carter also reveals that Vandal has killed them the last 206 lifetimes, each time growing stronger and retaining his immortality. He tries to help Kendra find herself again, even going as far as pushing her off a rooftop, saying that she can fly. They find out that he is after weapons that can increase his power and one of them is the Staff of Horus. They can not find it around Star City so they decide to head back to Central City. Vandal locates the Staff of Horus, a weapon capable of killing Carter and Kendra, before they do. He attacks Barry and Oliver, showing how destructive the staff is. Barry is able to get him and Oliver out of the church before it explodes with Vandal in it. Barry asks Oliver if Vandal could have survived and says yes.. After Kendra unlocks her abilities, everyone decides to regroup in Central City to take down Vandal for good. Meanwhile, Caitlin and Harrison create a serum that will increase Barry's speed temporarily so that he can defeat Zoom. It is called Velocity 6 and Wells asks Jay to be his test subject. Initially, Jay rejects, but after Wells is shot by Patty, who thought he had a gun, he is forced to take it. It restores his speed and is able to phase through Wells to retrieve the bullet and save him. He then warns Wells not to give the serum to Barry.
This episode did not disappoint when it came to the action. Everyone had their chance to shine and of course the two dynamics of the shows mixed well. Seeing Team Arrow having to adjust to metas and Team Flash have to deal with mystical beings was fun to watch.
Vandal Savage: A 6,000-year-old immortal, who has manipulated leaders throughout history in an attempt to gain dominion over the entire world. He is skilled in armed and unarmed combat. He has enhanced speed, strength and intelligence as he was able to fight off multiple attackers at once. He is revealed to have ties to both Carter and Kendra, having killed them in their 206 lifetimes. He can also sense where they are and find them. He gains more power when doing so and returned to repeat the process.
Prince Khufu/Carter Hall/Hawkman: A man who is cursed to die and be reborn again along with his lover Priestess Shiera. In this reincarnation he remember who she is, but she doesn't. He is shown to have flight, enhanced strength, speed, advanced combat skills, and a horrible way with girls.
Team Flash and Team Arrow- Team ups are always epic. There are so many characters, but they meshed together so well. Even the new faces. There was plenty of witty banter between everyone. Thea and Diggle still haven't gotten used to the whole meta-human thing with Diggle throwing up after being saved by Barry. Thea seemed starstruck meeting the Flash and his team this time around. Look at that squad! Almost like a "League" of sorts.
Barry and Oliver- They pretty much pick things up where they left off. This time Barry came to Oliver for help after saving everyone at Nanda Parbat and squaring off with Reverse-Flash. It was nice to see these two get some sort of break from all the crime fighting and just hang out with all their friends.
Barry and Patty- I love how adorable they are together even when they are trying to act professional. Too bad Barry has continues to keep secrets from her. I wish that she would just be let in the circle already.
Barry and Felicity- The last time these two saw each other he saved her and the rest of Team Arrow from suffocating to death at the hands of Ras Al Ghul. She showed concern for his incident with Zoom and his temporary paralysis.
Kendra and Cisco- These two are adorable as well. Hopefully the entrance of Carter doesn't mess up anything between them, at least for right now. Cisco made a good point of Hawkman's chances of protecting her were slim since he failed to do so in their last 206 lifetimes. Buuuurrrrnnn!
Kendra and Carter- There's obviously some things that these two need to talk about, but Carter could have definitely taken a better approach. Instead he comes in and says,"Hey, we've been lovers for over 4,000 years, we've died in 206 lifetimes because of Vandal Savage. Let's be together again, trust me." Then proceeds to push her off a building. Nice one Carter.
Vandal and Everyone- This guy is literally his name. Just like Zoom and Damien Darhk, he's proven to be a villain who is NOT a one and done deal. Yeah, he might not be able to move super fast and have powers like Damien, but he's got a whole lot of knowledge in that brain of his. He handled Oliver, tagged Barry and somehow survived falling from a five story building with arrows in his chest. Now he's got the staff of Horus and looks pretty unstoppable. Team FlashxArrow vs. Vandal with Vandal at the top at the moment. Damn.
Damien and Oliver-Oliver once again tried to stop Damien this episode, but was then touch in his special spot. Good thing Barry showed up when he or else Oliver wouldn't have been so lucky. Damien looked to be having a good time too and wasn't even phased by what happened.
Wells and Jay- These two still do not see eye to eye, but Jay did end up saving the guy. Guess old habits are tough to kick and Jay will continue to be the hero, even if it means saving a man he doesn't necessary like. At least he was given his powers temporarily thanks to Wells and Caitlin.
Wells and Caitlin- Now we all know the Wells she used to work with along with Cisco was different. However we are reminded of that relationship when these two work together to make Velocity 6. She seems to be the only who understands him and wants to help.
Caitlin and Jay- There was something there when they first met, but he hasn't been around. You can tell her still really cares about her. Warning her not to trust Wells and to take care of herself. She even convinced him to save Wells and take the serum.
Joe and Patty- I get why he is keeping Barry's secret from her, I do. But this is going to bite him and everyone in the ass one of these days. After she shoots Wells, Joe still doesn't tell her what's going on. She leaves traumatized and feeling like she just did something very wrong, but not knowing what's really going on.
Malcolm and Everyone- He knows more than he's letting on for sure. It could be that he afraid, but since he no longer has the pit, getting on the side of an immortal could be useful for him.
FlashxArrow- There were quite a few things that stuck out. Look at the caps on those test tubes. Look at the Flash action figure and coffee named after him.
Staff of Horus- In Egyptian mythology, the hawk-headed god was Horus. Horus is the son of Osiris and Isis, and great-great-grandson of Ra. Horus, as "Heru", provided Black Adam and his former sidekick Osiris their powers of speed and flight. The top of the staff resembles him and holds immense power. Horus was said to be immortal, could alter his size, fly and move at superspeeds. It is obvious that this weapon has ties to Vandal, Carter and Kendra.
Velocity 6- In the comics Velocity 9 was a drug developed by Vandal Savage. It granted its user with a high that included the ability to travel at superspeed. But these highs came at a severe cost to the user, causing premature aging, exhaustion, red eyes, staring, salivating, and eventually death. Velocity 9 is similar to the Speed Juice used by Johnny Quick in JLA: Earth-2. We kinda sorta get some variation of it with Velocity 6.
New 52- The info they are able to get on Vandal shows that he is subject number 52. We saw that.
What's to Come/Theories:
Vandal is going to use his new toy, The Staff of Horus to cause some major trouble in Central City. Our heroes band together with some new faces to stop his evil plan. How does one stop an immortal man who has knowledge that span over thousands of years and has skills to match? We will have to see. As for Velocity 6 and the Zoom story arc. What was Jay feeling after taking it and having his powers back for a brief moment? Will it be enough to help Barry defeat Zoom? Also the mystery of who Zoom is still stands. Will Patty finally be let in on the secret or will she find out on her own and break off her relationship with Barry? We hope not. Also Oliver may have a little one running around after seeing his ex at Jitters. We'll have to see tomorrow! The preview for next week's episode shows the Trickster, Captain Cold, and Mark Mardon putting the Flash and his loved ones in danger. Hopefully nothing happens to Patty! There are so many parts to these stories and we can not wait to see how it all unfolds.
When the shows crossover it is amazing. Say what you want about them, but they do a lot with what they have to work with. Despite the large cast, it doesn't feel too cramped and everyone was given just enough screen time. Part 1 of this 2 night event was a success and we can not wait to see how this moves these shows forward. What did you think about the episode? Leave it in the comments down below we'd love to read them!
