Check out our podcast down below to hear us talk about this episode:
Rosalind and Coulson are having dinner, talking about how to move forward in confronting Malick. Before they can finish their conversation she is shot by a sniper. Rosalind dies in his arms and then receives a phone call from Ward. He is in a building across town and tells Coulson he has come to finish things. He sends his "Bones Brigade" to dispatch Coulson, but he is able to stop them. He then calls Mack for pick up.Back the Playground, Coulson breaks down and then talks to the rest of team to get more information on Ward. He learns from May, Fitz, Simmons, and Daisy that the reason that Ward is the way he is because of his hard upbringing by abusive parents. He lashes out at Hunter and says that innocent people have died due to him not being able to finish the job. Bobbi calms him down and then Coulson asks the two to join him. He decides to go off books and kidnap Ward's younger brother Thomas to draw him out. He makes Mack interim Director and leaves with Hunter and Bobbi. Fitz and Simmons go with Banks to investigate the ATCU, but Banks is killed by Giyera and the two are captured by Hydra. Simmons is tortured until Fitz agrees to help Hydra return the Inhuman to Earth, while Coulson uses a phone call between the Ward brothers, where Grant attempts to justify himself and his past actions to Thomas, to locate Hydra: they have set up base at the English castle. Mack clears Gutierrez and Campbell for field duty, and mobilizes the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a rescue mission. Hydra reopens the portal, and Malick convinces Ward to lead Hydra through it with Fitz, and return with the Inhuman, promising that Coulson will die when they return. Desperate to end Ward, Coulson manages to enter the portal as well. On the other side, Grant, Fitz, and the Hydra agents begin to look for the Inhuman while Coulson is knocked out after hitting his head on a rock.
It's about time we see more Coulson kicking ass and that was all in the first five minutes. Then we get the epic Captain America dive at the end. So awesome. Here's a couple of notable scenes.
Thomas Ward: Ward's younger brother who went off the radar to keep Ward away. He said that Ward was very protective of him when they were younger until their older brother forced Ward to push him down a well. After seeing Ward kill their brother and hurting their parents, he went into hiding, being afraid for his life.
Coulson and Rosalind- Right when things were getting good for the two she gets capped. i actually feel bad that I thought she was one of the bad guys. It's really a shame that she went out the way she did. No one deserves that. Poor Coulson didn't even have time to grieve for her. #Cousalind4Ever
Coulson and Ward- Ward seriously needs to find better things to do with his time. He's been saying that he wanted to take out Coulson and still has failed to do so. Coulson has tried to bring the fight to him, but Ward always his foot out the door. Be a man and get the job done! There's going to be some hell to pay once Coulson gets to him. You can just feel the tension build in this episode alone.
Coulson and the Team- It sucked seeing the team not being able to get through to him. You can't blame the guy for reacting the way he did though. Plus he's Coulson, he could never really stay mad at anyone. It was still good to see the team show some respect and sympathy for their leader. Some of the questions he asked during the interrogations made sense and some, well, not so much. May and Daisy tried to reach out, but all Coulson was seeing was red. He made Mack the stand in Director right before he left, so that will be interesting.
Coulson, Hunter and Bobbi- This team up was amazing. You've got the loose canon, the "avenger" and the one who's got her head on straight. That whole mission would have gone way different had Bobbi not been there. It didn't end as well as they planned, but at least they're all alive. For now at least.
Secret Warriors- They haven't done anything yet, we're just super excited to see them squad up. Quake, Sparkplug, and Welder (we made that name up). Secret Warriors.
Jemma and Fitz- Fitz gets the award for most selfless character in the history of everything. Not only is he willing to give up his happiness for the woman he loves, he was ready to give up his life. No matter how hard she tried to convince him not to go through with it, he did it anyways. "I can't live in world that doesn't have you in it." Had us tearing up.
Ward and Malick- Ward has been pretty good at not letting people get to him so why is he still letting this old man manipulate him. You can just tell from the sound of his voice that he is not sincere at all with what he is saying. He lies for a living! This whole plan to send Ward through was definitely more for his benefit. If he is successful and Ward brings back the Inhuman he will get what he wants. If Ward and his men die, well Malick won't really be losing anything. He can just find some other meat head to put to work.
Ward and Thomas- The only person that actually brings some humanity to Ward. Its clear from Thomas that his brother is a bad person. When Ward tries to justify his atrocities, Thomas tells him he had a choice to be good like he did. He just made the wrong one. That was probably the hardest hit for him. Ouch, so much for doing the things you do for the people you love.
Ward and Jemma- He said he wouldn't hurt her. He hurt her. He can never be forgiven. Jemma is one tough girl though.
Ward and Fitz- If I were in Fitz's position I think I would have done the same thing. Nobody hurts my woman and gets away with it. I just wish Fitz had taken some martial arts class or learned to fight over the course of the show, so he can beat the crap out of Ward on the other planet. Now he will have to rely on his intelligence and wit to get out of there.
Secret Warriors! Secret Warriors! Secret Warriors!
What's to Come/Theories:
Now that Hydra has gone through the portal, will they be able to finish the mission and bring back the powerful Inhuman? Hopefully Fitz gets out in one piece after making the noble choice to save Will for the girl he loves. Not only do they have to deal with the unknown, but they now have Coulson to deal with. Hopefully he doesn't stay asleep for too long. What I am really excited to find out is who the Inhuman really is and to see the Secret Warriors in action! We are really hoping that nobody from the team is killed off next episode.
This was a pretty great episode overall. They were finally able to put a story to this whole Hydra business and it has made the show a lot more interesting. Now all we can do is sit back, relax and watch it all unfold. Plus we've been waiting for Daisy's team to get assembled and that's something to really look forward to. Secret Warriors! Oh and RIP Rosalind, you shall be missed dearly. What did you guy think about this episode? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
