[X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267) might still be 6 months away, but it's already shaping up to be one of the best films in the fifteen year old franchise. Bryan Singer has promised this will be something of a rebirth for the X-Men, bringing the team into a new age as we say goodbye to some of the franchise's biggest stars. Of course, as the plot of the movie concerns the end of the world itself, the story will be far from understated. Evan Peters (who plays Quicksilver) is confident X-Men Apocalypse will wow fans...

"It’s the biggest X-Men film, it's about the apocalypse, so the scope of the film is huge!"

As the character quickly rose to fan fave status after Days Of Future Past, it's no surprise that Quicksilver will have a major role to play in Apocalypse. With such a large and star-studded cast, it's difficult to guess who will really stand out in the story. As Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence is departing the series, there's no doubt that Mystique's story will also be very compelling as she takes on more responsibility. But will Quicksilver steal the show... again?

Mystique's Redemption

Mystique is a very interesting character: starting as a villain in the original trilogy of X-Men movies, First Class showed her backstory and turned her into more of an anti-hero character. Days Of Future Past also developed her character, as she sought vengeance for the deaths of her friends.

The final climax of the movie hinged on Mystique's choices, and as she ultimately decided not to kill Trask or Magneto, the movie acted as something of a redemption for her character. In fact, you could argue that the main mission of the film was to save Mystique from becoming the villain we saw in the original trilogy. Obviously, this story has huge consequences for Raven's arc in Apocalypse, and according to writer Simon Kinberg, being seen as the mutant hero who saved the president has caused Mystique to take on new responsibilities.

"I think the movie explores her struggle, which is sort of the result of Days of Future Past. If you think about the end of Days of Future Past, in front of the entire world she stops Magneto and saves the President and cabinet, and so this movie certainly explores 10 years later what it is to wear the mantle of that responsibility."

Although Xavier obviously commands the X-Men, it seems that Mystique will be the team leader in the field. This is a nice full-circle to her story, as she was the one who suggested forming a hero team in First Class. How her story will end remains to be seen, as the writers will have to set up some exit for her character.

There's even a theory that she might have been working for Apocalypse all along... but speculation aside it's clear that the movie will focus largely on Raven's character development. But she's going to have competition for fan admiration, as Quicksilver's role is set to get a lot bigger...

Quicksilver Joins The Team

It's no surprise that Evan Peter's is back as Quicksilver in X-Men Apocalypse. His irreverent yet endearing character was one of the highlights of Days Of Future Past, and the slow motion speed scene quickly became iconic. It looks like the filmmakers are hoping to repeat past successes in Apocalypse, as we'll be getting an even longer version of... the same scene.

"It’s bigger, longer and more detailed. I think it’s an amazing sequence that they’ve put together. Knock on wood, I think it’s going to be a fun and enjoyable sequence for people to watch, with Quicksilver running around and doing his thing in slow-mo time. I hope people like it."

Evan Peters' description certainly is intriguing, though just cutting and pasting the same scene into Apocalypse isn't exactly exciting. With any luck, Bryan Singer will have added something to make this new scene surpass the first!

But aside from that one scene, Quicksilver's set to have a strong storyline in Apocalypse. It was recently revealed that the hints were true: Magneto is indeed Quicksilver's father, and this will form much of the plot of Apocalypse.

"The story is that my character is searching for his father and wants to find him. It starts there and then he jumps on the X-Men train and gets sucked up in this whole Apocalypse madness: He tries to stop him from destroying the world."

With Quicksilver having such popularity with fans, this poignant plot will no doubt be one of the best parts of Apocalypse. So will Evan Peters upstage everyone again? It's definitely possible, but we'll just have to wait and see to find out!
