Today we are taking a closer look at the Disney/Pixar movie Inside Out. As we all know that movie is based around emotions. Characters represent the emotions of a girl named Riley. There is Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger. These seem to be all the emotions a little girl could have at that point in her life. But could it be possible that Pixar is already dropping hints at a sequel that will feature a much older Riley and a much more mature plot line?
The character Bing Bong is the center of the theory. I've noticed something about his design. Bing Bong has a flower on his coat that has six petals in varying colors; the colors are red, yellow, blue, green, purple, and orange. Now obviously the first five colors represent Riley's emotions and the fifth color has no representation, at first I thought it might be Bing Bong because of his legs but Bing Bong's main color is pink so who does the orange belong to?
I propose that the orange flower pedal represents another emotion in Riley that is still hidden away inside her. And if you think about her age it all starts to make sense. Riley is 11 in the movie making her just a few years from hitting puberty. I think that the 6th color pedal represents Lust but because she is still so young it hasn’t shown up yet.
I also believe that Lust will be the main focus of the sequel if and when it happens. It would make perfect sense to make Riley a teenager in the next movie. What better representation of a wide range of emotions than a teenage girl? And introducing Lust into the mix could make for a very entertaining movie.
And one last piece of evidence that this is the path that Pixar is going down is the short film that was included in the recent blue ray release of the film. The short is called “Rileys first date” This could be pixar forshadowing the direction they are going to take the sequel.
