The scifi/comedy series is returning once again but it may not feature Will Smith returning to the role of Agent J. The longtime franchise producers Laurie MacDonald & Walter Parkes were speaking with BBC Newsbeat and MacDonald revealed that Men In Black 4 will star "a prominent woman in black."
It appears that the fourth installment will be a revision for the series. Parkes then explained:
"We sort of looked at the first three in retrospect as a bit of a trilogy. We tried to tell a story about those two characters and that relationship, It sounds silly because it’s a fun, science fiction comedy but when you work on these things you sort of try to find some thematic basis underneath it. Now we are looking at a reinvention, but it’s a wonderful world to get back into."
A smart move in my opinion. While I love Kay and Jay, their story is done and we don't need to see them anymore. Now this doesn't mean Jay won't be in it, it could be that Jay recruits a new agent to take his place.
After the last (and in my opinion best) movie of the series, I'd say its time for something or in this case someone new to bring new life into the franchise. Afterall, I'd rather have a Men In Black sequel than a crossover with 21 Jump Street.
