Following the success of Hideo Kojima's final Metal Gear Solid game, [Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain](tag:2683985), Konami have already expressed their desires to continue making installments for the franchise. After all, Metal Gear is their most successful video game IP - it seems that even though they're dismantling sections of their company and firing people left, right, and center, they're still keen on raking in those MGS dollars.
But if Konami are going to continue expanding on the world that Kojima gifted us all, and they continue to work within the narrative that he created, there's really only one character that can replace Big Boss, Raiden, or Solid Snake as lead. Do you agree with our observation?
After Metal Gear Solid 5 - The Boss is Who We Need
We've no idea where Konami are going to take this monumental franchise. Perhaps they'll completely disregard Kojima's work and characters, and create a whole new cast within the same universe after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
But if they're looking to expand upon this dense narrative, and explore some of the characters that we already know and love, then we feel like the only lead that we need for Metal Gear Solid 6 is Big Boss' mentor: The Boss.
Think about it. This is the person who taught The Boss everything he knew. She was the greatest influence on his life, and even in the final showdown with The Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, she was holding back. Her mission was to allow Naked Snake to kill her in battle, therefore her true powers were never revealed to us. Imagine being able to play Metal Gear Solid 6 as a character this powerful and influential.
We could explore her backstory, see how she became the fearsome agent that she is in Snake Eater, and then even play through the events of Metal Gear Solid 3. However, we'd need a new twist if Konami are really going to continue in true MGS fashion. Though perhaps they won't care about this series as much as Kojima did - actually, they won't. But if they want fans to be attracted to Metal Gear Solid 6, they're going to have to stay true to the source material and attempt to deliver something similar to what Kojima would have given us - basically an impossible task.
Should Konami Say Goodbye to Snake For Metal Gear Solid 6?
Alternatively, Konami could simply come up with a whole new angle on everything. New characters, new setting, new time period, but still within the MGS universe. Would you prefer that they leave Kojima's narrative alone, or would you like to see The Boss' origin story? Let us know where you stand in the comments!
