Although Mass Effect: Andromeda is moving away from the Milky Way galaxy, that apparently doesn't mean we've to leave behind everything we know about the series. This new galaxy opens up the potential of meeting tons of new companions, friends, and enemies. But some of these could be more familiar to us than we were previously aware of.

There's been a recent gameplay leak for [Mass Effect: Andromeda](tag:2683449) (not in the form of video content, unfortunately), one which depicted various aspects of the series that were changing for this new release. While a lot of it sounds really cool, we're a little puzzled as to why one particular faction was referenced: Cerberus.

Mass Effect: Andromeda - According To A Gameplay Leak, Cerberus Are Returning

Let's take a quick look at some of the more interesting details that this leak informed us about Bioware's Mass Effect: Andromeda. Note that some of these details could potentially be spoilers:

  • One of, if not the main antagonistic force in Mass Effect: Andromeda, is a bipedal cross between the Vorcha and Collectors.
  • Rather than using the old Galaxy Map system, you'll be able to actually manually fly your ship in the new form of transport in Andromeda.
  • Destructible covers are apparently in the game, and everyone is fitted with a jetpack, which apparently comes into play when searching the various worlds we land on.
  • The narrative will revolve around searching for a new home for the races that escaped the Milky Way, we'll be able to customize our Mako, and we'll still only be able to take 2 squad mates on missions.

Aside from all of this information, the leak revealed that enemies will have the ability to drop into mission zones from their ships. The ships that were described in the leak though were Cerberus vessels. Now, some think that the name is simply a placeholder, but if it isn't, Cerberus could actually be making a return in Andromeda as an antagonistic force. But why on earth would they be in Andromeda, and why would Bioware want the organization to make a return in Mass Effect 4?

Old Faces On the Release Date of Mass Effect 4?

So long, Shepard.
So long, Shepard.

What we assume the plot of Mass Effect: Andromeda involves is a group of selected groups who evacuated the Milky Way as the threat of the Reapers reached its climax. Their mission was to find a new home for the various Milky Way races to thrive on. Perhaps Cerberus launched a mission like this too, and are seeking to dominate sections of the Andromeda galaxy. Makes sense, right?

But I'm not too fond of the idea that Bioware are reusing old threats again. I hated this aspect of Dragon Age: Inquisition, and it seems that the structure for Mass Effect 4's plot is basically the story of the trilogy in another galaxy. I'm sure it'll have tremendous variations, but the structure is very similar. I'm simply worried that Bioware aren't going to give us a new narrative that can rival that of the Mass Effect trilogy.
