Tom Holland spoke to SuperHeroHype about his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this interview he shared his thoughts on the character, his role in the MCU and the behind-the-scenes of the highly anticipated film.

Talking about his love for the character of Spider-Man, the actor had this to say:

“I have always been a huge fan of Spider-Man, and growing up, I had countless Spider-Man costumes. Only two years ago did I go to a fancy dress party dressed as Spider-Man. I had this awesome morph suit where you can put your phone on your chest and spiders would crawl across the costume, it was awesome! He’s always been a big part of my life and a big part of boys’ lives because everybody can relate to him.”

Thanks to the recently-released Captain America: Civil War trailer, we have a clearer idea of the plot, which involves super heroes answering to the government, as a response for the great destruction each battle causes. Tom Holland said about the resonance this plotline has in Spider-Man:

“I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is. I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask.”

Considering he is entering a workspace of actors that have great longevity in their respective roles, Tom was asked about his experience fitting in with the cast:

“I guess they’re such easy people. They’re lovely people and Robert did my first screen test and he was so welcoming. He took me aside and gave me a little advice about the audition. Like with Ron (Howard), I just felt at ease with him, ‘cause he’s just a down to earth easy-going guy, and I can’t wait to get to work with them more. I’m really excited to get to work and be a part of that universe.”

While for some what Tom said about no one having a secret identity in the MCU could seem like a reference of what is to come for the beloved character of Daredevil, the actor most likely was speaking only about the films and we are still left to wonder whether the Netflix characters will have a part to play in the super hero civil war.

What did you think about Tom Holland's comments?
