With all certainty we can look back at 'The Host' which announced the half way point of the Season and think it was the most serious one to date. Ash was mostly very subdued, and even though there were of course some jokes flying around, Ash in particular was very refrained from violence. This was in part because he came moments from killing Kelly, and we also saw Uncle Brujo meet his fate. Eligos made his 3rd episode straight, but let's hope (and you never quite know with this show) that we've seen the end of this horrible deadite.
"THE BREADKNIFE WAS EXPENSIVE, I DON'T WANT TO RUIN IT"
These words were from Brujo as he tells Pablo that Ash needs to be cut to get rid of Eligos. Bad girl Kelly has convinced Pablo and Brujo that Ash is hosting the deadite. Ash all gagged up can't get his words out, and at this point it looks like curtains for Ash. Ash understandably loses it when Brujo suggests that this operation could make Ash numb from the waist down.
"IT'S NOT LOADED, BUT I AM"
Pablo finally gets close to Kelly, but poor Pablo has no idea that Kelly is only acting this way because she is possessed with Eligos. Kelly gets high by smoking through a shot gun and then seduces Pablo to have a high time. Except she slips a bullet into the gun and BAM! Well, no not quite. Pablo doesn't really want to get high and takes such a long time deciding what to do that Kelly loses it and is finally revealed as Eligos. Meanwhile Ash is set free by Brujo and now they must make a difficult decision.
KELLY DOES A GREAT REGAN
With Ash, Pablo and Brujo now knowing that Kelly is possessed by Eligos they have to make a decision what to do next. She is tied up and tries many deadite tricks, when that fails she does a great puke of pukes, à la The Exorcist and hilariously misses Ash. Pablo asks the host to take him instead, which of course is another reference to the classic movie. At this point Eligos comes out of Kelly and does the unthinkable.
ASH KILLS ELIGOS BUT BRUJO DIES
Eligos kills Brujo by impaling him and the great one is dead. Ash reacts by not reacting- the old adage by author Charles Bukowski rings true once again, 'don't try'. Ash swings with a chainsaw and then gets his shotgun primed up and bang, gets Eligos when we least think so, the head explodes and the nightmare is over, for now. The subdued threesome burn Brujo in accordance to his spiritual beliefs and a dejected Pablo finds an item owned by his uncle and the team head off for new adventures.
ASH VS. EVIL DEAD IS NOT A 30 MINUTE SHOW
When Ash vs. Evil Dead was first announced we were told we were getting 5 hours of more Ash and Evil Dead. The show has been a blast and there is no doubt that by continuing Evil Dead as a television show is giving the fans so much more than a 90 minute movie. However, we were told that the show would be half an hour. The truth is that each episode runs just over 26 minutes, but after you take out the recap from the previous show and the end of cast line up we are left with 25 minutes of footage. We're losing at least 4 minutes that we were promised. It's cool this is TV and sometimes this is how it rolls, but it was important to mention it, after all over a season that's nearly an hour down the deadite plughole!
