It's hard enough dragging yourself out of bed every day, but I imagine the motivation becomes that much more difficult when you're literally growing a human child inside of you. But while life doesn't stop for the everyday ladies who get pregnant, we can take solace in the fact that it doesn't stop for celebrities either!
Take a look at just a few of your favorite actresses who have all soldiered on with the demands of filming a movie or TV series while pregnant:
1. Kate Winslet - 'Divergent' and 'A Little Chaos'
Kate Winslet was well over half way through her pregnancy with her youngest son Bear Blaze Winslet when she filmed for her role as Jeanine Matthews in Divergent. For much of the film Winslet can be seen carrying iPads of folders in front of her stomach to block her bump, and a stunt double also stepped in for some shots.
Kate was also pregnant with Bear while filming A Little Chaos, a role which required her to wear a corset. Fortunately for Winslet the corset stopped right at naval level, though she did admit another problem, telling US Weekly "the corset from that time period actually stops right at your navel, so that was not an issue. It was really just what to do with the boobs!"
2. Sonequa Martin-Green - 'The Walking Dead'
Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Sasha on The Walking Dead was heavily pregnant while filming Season 5 of the show, and gave birth to her son Kenric Justin Green II in January this year. Speaking to EW Martin-Green revealed that while she was blessed with having a great pregnancy, the show also hid her growing bump with many layers of clothing, as well as hiding her stomach behind Sasha big gun! Clever camera angles were also used to sure you never saw Sasha in profile, giving away Martin-Green's secret.
3. Alanna Masterson - 'The Walking Dead'
While Sonequa Martin-Green was pregnant in Season 5 of The Walking Dead, in Season 6 it was Alanna Masterson! With Masterson's character, Tara being a lesbian on the show there was little chance of a pregnancy being written into the series, so just like her co-star the crew has been using tricky camera angles, well placed props and baggy clothing to try and mask Masterson's bump. Just two weeks ago Masterson and her partner Brick Stowell welcomed their baby, though they are yet to announce the name or gender.
4. Penelope Cruz - 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'
Just before filming for her role in the fourth film of the Pirates franchise, Penelope Cruz found out she was pregnant with son Leo Encinas Cruz. However director Rob Marshall worked with Cruz to conceal her pregnancy for her role as Angelica, including using Cruz's younger sister Mónica Cruz as a body double!
5. Alyson Hannigan - 'How I Met Your Mother'
During Season 4 of How I Met Your Mother two of the main stars fell pregnant, presenting quite a difficult challenge to the crew of the show. While Hannigan's character, Lily wasn't supposed to be pregnant in the series (though Lily did fall pregnant at the very end of Season 6), the crew actually joked with the audience about Hannigan's pregnancy, including hiding her bump behind globes or basketballs, or showing off her swollen stomach which was supposedly the result of Lily winning an eating competition.
6. Cobie Smulders - 'How I Met Your Mother'
The second of the pregnant How I Met Your Mother stars was Cobie Smulders, who played Robin in the series. While the crew made several jokes about her co-stars growing bump, for Smulders they opted to go the old fashion route, hiding her stomach behind clothing layers, and large handbags -- easy!
7. Julie Bowen - 'Modern Family'
Whilst Julie Bowen filmed for the pilot of the hit series Modern Family was back in 2009, she was actually 8-and-a-half months pregnant with twins! Obviously such a bump is extremely hard to hide, so the episode involved Bowen folding a lot of washing, hiding behind cereal boxes, and popping her head around corners.
8. Helena Bonham-Carter - 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street'
During filming for Sweeney Todd Bonham-Carter was pregnant with her daughter, Nell. In an interview with the Guardian back in 2008, the actress said that when she unexpectedly got pregnant "she wasn't popular with costume and continuity" and even pointed out that if you watch the film closely you can tell she was pregnant whilst filming because of her fluctuating breast size:
'If you look at the film and see my breast size, it goes up and down like a yo-yo. I have my usual tangerines and I walk around the corner and suddenly they're melons.'
