If you're not a hardcore Star Wars fan you might not know about Yaddle – the female equivalent of Yoda.
It's a shame not many people know about her, because she was pretty badass. Yaddle, who is of the same species as Yoda, was a renowned Jedi master and went on several missions across the galaxy. She teamed up with famous Jedi, such as Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and even Anakin Skywalker.
Patient and resistant
When Yaddle was a Padawan, her Jedi Master was killed in a battle, and she was left to fight dozens of enemies. She was unfortunately captured, and they tried to torture information out of her. Yaddle refused to answer any of their questions, despite being tortured a number of times. She was then imprisoned in an underground cell where she was kept for an entire century, earning her the nickname "The One Below." During her imprisonment she achieved unity with the Force and it was the only thing that kept her alive down there.
Escape at last
Following a natural disaster, she managed to escape her prison, and she even stayed behind to help the civilians on the planet as much as she could. When she returned to the Jedi council they realized she had achieved unity with the Force and allowed her to join them, despite her still being a Padawan. Yoda was initially against this idea, but since the rest of the council was for it he let her join. After becoming a Jedi Master she trained several Padawans herself, and she became renowned for her wisdom and good advice. She was a mentor for the students, and she often turned a blind eye on their pranks and slipped sweets in their pockets when they weren't looking.
The ultimate sacrifice
At one point, Yaddle, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker were sent together to Mawan in a mission to restore peace on the planet. Their enemy released a bioweapon that would destroy the whole planet, but Yaddle sacrificed herself by using the Force to absorb the weapon. This killed her instantly, at the age of 483 years old. She saved the city of Nataan along with Obi-Wan and Anakin.
As you can see, Yaddle was quite a babe and it's a shame she's been given so little screen time. You can just about catch a glimpse of her in The Phantom Menace during one of the council scenes, but unfortunately I was unable to find the clip for this article. Here's a still from the movie though, you can see her on the left-hand side in the same type of chair that Yoda sits in.
