Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation was a huge success earlier in 2015 grossing over $682 Million worldwide and for good reason, it was an excellent action film, the best in the series in my opinion. A couple of weeks ago rumors started to circulate that Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie may return to direct the 6th film in the Mission: Impossible series and now it looks like it's confirmed. Yesterday McQuarrie tweeted the following:
This is a huge thing for the Mission: Impossible franchise. McQuarrie is now the only director in history to direct more than one Mission: Impossible film. My favorite thing about the franchise is that a new director is hired for each film, to keep the films fresh and new, but I'm actually okay with McQuarrie returning. He did such a remarkable job with Rogue Nation (Currently my 3rd favorite film of the year) that I'd love to see him direct another one.
I was hoping for Edge Of Tomorrow director Doug Liman to try his hand at the Mission: Impossible franchise but he's now directing Gambit for Fox.
McQuarrie is currently working with Tom Cruise on Jack Reacher: Never Go Back which hits theaters October 21st 2016. Mission: Impossible 6 is scheduled for a 2017 release date.
