After dreaming of getting married for years, it's understandable that people want their big day to be just right. And naturally when you're rich and famous, you can be as extravagant as you like in making the most special day in your life as perfect as can be.
Yet, the following 8 celebrity couples didn't just stop at luxury garments, over-the-top white wedding cakes and copious amounts of glittery confetti. Instead, they opted for a more unique approach to conducting a wedding ceremony -- take a look at some of the most quirky nuptials in recent history:
1. Nicole Richie & Joel Madden
Alongside a slew of star-studded guests, it was one attendee at the wedding that really stood out at Nicole Richie and Joel Madden's beautiful wedding -- a real-life elephant that observed the two love birds exchange their vows.
2. Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton
Not only did Miranda wear her mother's wedding dress with a pair of cowboy boots, but the couple also served their guests a meal of venison, which she happened to have killed herself.
Brutal but brilliant, I'm sure you'll agree.
3. Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick
For her wedding ceremony, SJP made the super bold choice of wearing a black wedding gown, a decision she now sadly regrets even though she looked absolutely stunning. She's since said that if she was to re-new her nuptials with her husband of nearly 15 years, she would:
"White it up. I'd wear a beautiful, proper wedding dress, like I should have worn that day."
Nothing like the Vera Wang soufflé she wore for her first failed wedding to Mr. Big in Sex and The City though, I hope:
4. Britney Spears & Kevin Federline
When Brit and K Fedz married, guests turned up to what they thought was just their engagement party to find out it was their actual nuptials. In true Britney style, they also gave their bridesmaids and groomsmen personalized Juicy Couture sweatsuits which read 'The Maid' and 'Pimp Daddy.'
So 2004. Love it.
5. Mary-Kate Olsen & Olivier Sarkozy
Although no current photos have been released, we do know that one half of the Olsen twins finally tied the knot on Black Friday in Manhattan in a wedding reception that had a cell phone ban, as well as bowls of free cigarettes on every table.
And this just begs me to ask so many questions: Are all of their friends smokers or something? Were they standard, good ol' Marlboro Lights? Or did they fork out for a fancier brand like Sobranis, for example? What did they all ash into? I demand answers!
6. Pamela Anderson & Kid Rock
When these two married in 2006, it was quite unsurprising that it would be a wedding like no other -- more specifically, a ceremony with as few pieces of clothing as possible.
Instead of donning a traditional white dress, Pam just put on and pranced around in a tiny white string bikini -- because she's Pam and why not?
7. Victoria Beckham & David Beckham
In 1999, Vicky B and 'Golden Balls' tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Dublin. Not only did the ex-Spice Girl wear an 18-carat gold crown encrusted with diamonds, but both of them sat on golden thrones just in case their guests didn't already know they were king and queen of life.
Oh, and when the time came to cut the cake, everyone caught a glorious glimpse of a nude sculpture of the couple resting gently on top of it. Amazing.
8. Elizabeth Taylor & Larry Fortensky
When Elizabeth Taylor got married to her seventh husband, she rented out Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch for a hefty $1.5 million dollars.
While the 100-man security force stood watch, A-list guests such as Nancy Reagan and Macaulay Culkin partied it up and rode around on all of the rides! Sadly, they forgot my invite.
