When I was a kid, nothing on TV could match the good old Cartoon Network. Sure, I had my share of Disney and Nick, but Cartoon Network was where it was at for me!

It had awesome original shows, like The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory and Courage the Cowardly Dog! These shows gave the channel a ton of success, making it the leading animation network, even to this day.

While I enjoy some of the new shows on the channel - like Adventure Time and Regular Show - I've always been more partial to my childhood favorites, which is why I'm so happy to be alive during this day and age, where almost everything is a reboot or a remake!

Even though reboots and remakes don't always work, it's still cool to know that there's always a chance that my favorite TV shows could one day come back—hopefully for the better.

The Powerpuff Girls and Scooby-Doo - two staples of my childhood - are coming back next year. But as much as I loved those shows growing up, I feel as if they're going to be made more for the next generation of kids. So I'm not really sure how I feel about them yet. But there's one upcoming revival of my favorite childhood show that I cannot wait for; Samurai Jack!

Jack is back!
Jack is back!

Samurai Jack is coming back to television! It's been 11 years since the final episode aired on Cartoon Network, and ever since, fans have been waiting for anything signalling the show's return.

But finally, in 2016, Adult Swim (a sister channel of Cartoon Network) is bringing Jack back to our TV's in all new adventures! The show will air on Adult Swim's Toonami block, a Saturday block that airs episodes of several different anime and animated action shows.

Though I am super excited for the return of this series, I can understand if some fans - even the diehard ones - are just a little worried about it. After all, Hollywood doesn't exactly have a great track record when it comes to reboots. Sometimes the fans aren't happy with how a new iteration of their favorite show comes out. But don't you worry Jack fans, I'm here to tell you that the new Samurai Jack is going to be a-ok! How do I know that? Well, I don't, not for sure at least. But I've got 3 pretty good reasons for believing so!

1. Jack Is Back, And So Is Genndy!

Samurai Jack was created by Genndy Tartakovsky, and even if you haven't watched it, you've heard his name before! The Russian director and animator has worked on quite a few incredible projects, including the Dexter's Laboratory TV film and The Powerpuff Girls feature film.

He also worked on Hotel Transylvania and its sequel, which is why the animation in that movie is pretty spectacular! Aside from animated movies, Genndy was the storyboard artist for some action movies. I can't really remember the name of it, it's supposed to be part of some universe or something. Eh, it's probably too low-budget and indie for me to remember...

Oh, that was it!

On the TV side of things, Genndy has kept busy with a number of animated shows, such as Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: The Animated Series, and The Powerpuff Girls. Though he didn't make any of those shows, he did create Dexter's Labaratory, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (the 2D one) and of course, Samurai Jack!

More recently, you can see Genndy's handiwork in Steven Universe, a show that I recommend to EVERYBODY! Next year, Genndy will be returning to the animation scene again by creating, writing and directing a brand new season for Samurai Jack!

And yes, you heard that right...

2. It's A Brand New Season!

Like I said, reboots don't always please the fans. But with Genndy back behind the scenes, the new Samurai Jack should be fine, especially since it's not really a new Samurai Jack at all!

Rather, it's a new season, a continuation of the original shows story! When Genndy spoke to ComicBook.com back in September, he talked about his dream of continuing the Samurai Jack in a movie or TV mini-series:

"I feel like it's time to maybe finish the story. We've been trying to get the feature off the ground but maybe that's just fate's way of saying this is a television thing and maybe it should be a mini-series or something like that."

Now his (and our) dreams are finally coming true! It'll be exciting to see the epic conclusion to Samurai Jack's story. If you're a fan of just the show, the series ended with Jack rescuing a baby from a gang of ogres.

It should have ended with Jack finally facing Aku- the weird looking demonic creature above- in a final battle. If you're a fan of the comics, they continued the story just a bit, ending with a an old scribe researching the legacy of the hero known as 'Jack'.

Either way, we never got the story that we really wanted. A film was planned, but it never came to light. Now, with this new season coming, we'll finally get the end to Samurai Jack that we deserve!

3. The Fans Have Grown Up, And So Might The Show!

The decision to put the new Samurai Jack Season on Adult Swim might sound like a poor one to some, but it's the best possible way to please the original fans! Samurai Jack lasted from 2001 to 2004. Since then, the fans have grown up, and want just a little bit more maturity in their television content.

That's not to say that Samurai Jack was ever a just-for-kids kind of show; adults loved it just as much as kids! I'm also certainly not suggesting that the new show will be bloody, gory, hyper-sexual, or feature any other TV-MA rated themes.

But with the show moving from Cartoon Network to late night Toonami, it allows Genndy and the folks working on the show more freedom than they've ever had! The show will definitely become a bit more mature than before, but it will still definitely be the same Samurai Jack that we know and love!

Samurai Jack is certainly going to bring us "back to the past" next year! With Genndy returning, and the saga finally coming to a conclusion, Samurai Jack has the chance of once again becoming my favorite cartoon on TV!

Old fans, and hopefully new fans, will fall in love with Samurai Jack when the new season premieres on Adult Swim in 2016!
