Han Solo is quite popular these days. Not only is Harrison Ford returning to the role for [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158), Han is also getting his own stand alone film. Even if Han isn't your favorite Star Wars character, it's still hard not to love him! But exactly why do we all love Han Solo so much? Here are a few reasons why he's the coolest guy in the galaxy:
1: Han Gives Us A Reality Check
In a galaxy where certain men and women can move objects with their minds and control the thoughts of authority figures with the wave of a hand, it's nice that Han is here to add a dose of skepticism. Han makes the Star Wars universe feel more real and less like a movie by throwing out his opinions as a skeptic. This mimics the real world where people have a variety of beliefs and thoughts. After all, "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster."
2: He Adds A Bit Of Wit
Han Solo is the definition of a master of come backs. Whether he's talking to Chewie or Jabba the Hutt, he's got a retort that's worthy of quoting over and over for 30 years. When someone says "I love you", only someone with a lot of personality could respond with "I know."
3: He's Got Talent
When you're being pursued by a galaxy spanning, all powerful empire, you want only the best on your team. Why do you think Obi Wan chose Han out of all the other smugglers in the cantina? Not only is he a great shot and pilot, considering the whole Kessel Run business, he's very resourceful. You have to be if you're going to be a smuggler. Obi Wan, your discovery of Han almost makes up for the whole Anakin training failure.
4: He's Smooth
Han can talk his way in or out of anything. He can talk his way into and out of deals with the most powerful crime lord in the galaxy. He even held off imperial suspicion while under cover in the imp's own battle station, well, for a while at least. "We're all fine here now, thank you, how are you?" Oh Han. You never cease to amaze us.
5: (Rebel Style) Orange Is The New Black (Market)
In A New Hope when we first meet him, Han is a hardened criminal. But by the time Return of the Jedi roles around, Han is transformed into a rebel hero. He goes from smuggling less than legal items, to smuggling rebel landing parties. Han is the ultimate example of changing one's life for the better.
Han Solo was the suave, cool, witty best friend we always wanted. In a few weeks, I think we'll all be wanting a suave, cool, witty grandpa. Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18th in U.S. theaters and December 17th in the UK (just in case you hadn't heard yet) and casting for Han Solo's stand alone movie has begun!
