HBO's Game Of Thrones' hotly anticipated season six is due to hit our screens in April, and since the end of the previous season - and the shocking death of fan favourite Jon Snow - the Internet has been a-buzz with rumour, speculation and competing theories about what Snow's real fate would be. After all, if we know anything at all about Game Of Thrones, it's that death is not necessarily the end.
A teaser trailer for the upcoming season is now online, and it's...interesting, if not particularly revealing (which is really what you would expect from a teaser!). If you haven't seen it yet, take a look:
The ominous voice we hear intoning the opening words "the past is already written. The ink is dry" belongs to Max von Sydow, who has signed on to play the Three-Eyed Raven. After a season-long hiatus for Bran Stark (and Hodor!) it's safe to say he'll be back in 2016.
Bran himself says "they have no idea what's going to happen". We obviously have no context for that line, but it works perfectly for the teaser, encapsulating the fact that even hardcore Game Of Thrones fans who have read the books won't know what's coming, as the series finally stretches past the narrative already written in George R. R. Martin's beloved fantasy novels.
The actual footage in the teaser is recycled from memorable moments in previous seasons, including Jon Snow's betrayal, Jaime Lannister losing his hand, Ned Stark losing his head, and the "red wedding". It's no surprise that there's no new footage, but a lingering opening shot of Jon Snow, that immediately cuts to Bran's warg eyes, will add fuel to the resurrection fire.
The teaser has certainly whetted my appetite for what's to come from Game Of Thrones, and I'm looking forward to seeing more trailers before it finally arrives in April. What do you think? Do you, unlike "they" that Bran speaks of, think you have an idea of what's going to happen? Let me know your theories in the comments!
