Haha. I'm so tired. You ever get so tired you feel drunk? That's me right now. I'm at that point where things are getting juuuuust a little too funny. Since I can't sleep though, here are the best movies I know about Insomniacs in no particular order.
Bringing Out The Dead
I love this film. It's Cage at his absolute most desperate (other than Leaving Las Vegas). It's kind of sad, but super funny at the same time. The scene in which he tries to get himself fired is one of my favorites. Never have I seen such grim material made so incredibly funny. Martin Scorcese make good film.
Christian Bale creeps the shit out of us. Need I say more?
Part of me thinks Chuck just wrote this book about himself. If that's the case, Chuck had a freaking gnarly life. Fight Club examines what one man's descent into dissolution with his life will do to him. He literally and metaphorically is fighting to break out of the insomnia of modern life. Man that was nice and cliche.
When they first announced this movie I was like "Fuck yeah! Gyllenhaal's gonna be an X-man!" Hohoho! I laugh at past me for thinking that. 'Cause this is what they gave us instead. Desperation, and insanity. Gyllenhaal is a menace, and a scarily good one at that.
Ewwww. This is definitely an insomniac movie. So much so, that the writer of the film wrote another insomniac movie, it's called Bringing Out the Dead and it's directed by the same guy who directed this one. Coincidence? No. No it's really not. Like, I think they kinda, like, collaborated again 'cause it worked well the first time.
Lost In Translation
I didn't want to end on a bad note. Who doesn't love to watch a slightly depressed, insomniac Bill Murray sing karaoke in Japan? (No one).
