It is a truth universally acknowledged, that of every villain to have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki is pretty much everyone's favorite. After all, between the character's inherently intriguing nature, Tom Hiddleston's barnstorming performance, and the relative lack of fan-favorite alternatives, there isn't a whole lot of competition - leaving the God of Mischief as the undisputed champion of Marvel movie villainy...until Thanos arrives in Avengers: Infinity War, at any rate.

For all his popularity, though, he's arguably not had a whole lot of success on the actual 'villainy' front, notably failing in most of his dastardly schemes (with the closing moments of Thor: The Dark World being an obvious exception).

As it turns out, though, we almost saw Loki pull off the greatest trick of all:

Loki Almost Won Thor's Hammer in 'Thor: The Dark World'

Yup, that's right. We almost got to see a scene in 2013's Thor: The Dark World in which Loki, the tricksiest trickster of them all, actually got to wield Thor's worthiness-requiring hammer, Mjolnir.

A scene which, thanks to the recent release of Marvel's Phase 2 Box Set, we can now see...right here:

See what they did there?

Yup, that's right...

It Was All Just A Dream

Which, a) seems obvious in retrospect, considering everything we know about the way Mjolnir works, and b) makes the absence of the scene from the final cut make a fair amount of sense, seeing as it could well have confused some (especially younger) audience members for relatively little payoff.

That being said, though - could we still see some variation on the scene in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, perhaps without the dream element?

Here's hoping...

What do you think, though?
