Uh-oh, looks like The Countess of the pop-world had a bad romance with the industry.
After two highly successful albums, Lady Gaga released her third album 'Artpop' in 2013. Unfortunately it didn't do very well, and in a recent interview with Billboard magazine, Lady Gaga revealed that the industry turned their back on her after the failure. Things were so bad that she almost considered quitting the whole thing:
“At the end of 2014, my stylist asked, ‘Do you even want to be a pop star anymore?’ I looked at him and I go, ‘You know, if I could just stop this train right now, today, I would. I just can’t. But I need to get off now because I’m going to die.’ When you’re going so fast you don’t feel safe anymore, you feel like you’re being slapped around and you can’t think straight. But then I felt hands lifting me. It was like everybody came together to try and put a star back in the sky, and they weren’t going to let me down.”
In the same interview she tells a heartwarming story of how both Elton John and Tony Bennett stayed by her side through these difficult times.
"When the whole industry turned their back on me during Artpop, they were the ones who said, ‘Hey, this is a blip. It’s going to go away.’"
Things are luckily better for her now, and 2015 has definitely been a great year for Lady Gaga. She started the year by delivering the performance of the decade as she payed homage to The Sound of Music at the Oscars, a performance she spent two months preparing for. And what better way to end a great year than Billboard naming her Woman of the Year. It's truly deserved, Lady Gaga is talented, hard-working and overall a great woman.
