With talk of Nick bringing back old cartoons for reboots a lot of people are asking, why? Well Russell Hicks told MoviePilot today that they are trying to create some sort of crossover TV movie using all the 90s cartoons. With a Hey Arnold TV movie already in the works Nickelodeon plans to revamp other shows such as Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers, The Wild Thornberry’s, and more, etc. Those revamps are going to lead up to an Avenger-esque event where we will see those characters in some way on the same screen at the same time.
''A couple of months ago it was just a fake news announcement, we then went into discussion about it being a real thing'' says Russell Hicks, he later said ''this is a great way to bring all these old characters for a new generation of kids and those kids are offsprings of the parents who grew up with Nickelodeon, therefore creating a great family viewing audience''.
Chris Viscardi who has recently been promoted as Senior Vice President of Content and Development will oversee the project and will serve as creative producer with Arlene Klasky Mitch Schauer and Bob Camp serving as executive producers.
MoviePilot spoke with Arlene Klasky about the project and she said ''the project is in the very early stages of development, Nickelodeon just greenlit a script, and will make a decision about whether to actually produce the movie after reading it''. We later spoke to Bob Camp saying ''the movie will be in the spirit of the older shows whilst at the same time be appealing to the Nickelodeon's audience of 6-11''
