Check out our podcast here if you want to hear us talk about it:
Oliver and the team work with the people of Star City to restore part of the bay area when a drone starts firing at them. Thanks to Felicity the drone is taken out and they head back to the Arrowcave. Oliver thinks that this was an attack carried out by Darhk for dismissing the ultimatum he gave him. He decides to bring Darhk out into the light so that the people can put a face to the attacks on the city by the ghosts. Darhk is infuriated with Oliver making him public and goes on to attack him at a holiday party Oliver was throwing for his campaign. He takes Diggle, Thea, and Felicity after he knocks Oliver out. When he wakes up, Oliver works with Lance to find out where Darhk has take them and begins to torture Ghosts he finds around the city for information. Laurel tries to tell Oliver that they are going to be alright and that they can protect themselves thanks to him. He heads out and continues to interrogate more Ghosts. Laurel meets with her father to talk about his involvement with Darhk and he confesses that he did so to protect her. He also tells her that he was working with Oliver to get more information on Darhk. They then meet back up with Oliver who tells them his plan to turn himself in to Darhk. Malcolm shows up and gives Oliver a phone that will enable him to contact Darhk directly. Darhk takes Oliver to his base and shows him what he does to some of the prisoners there. He sends them into a gas chamber to die. He lets Oliver say his goodbyes to Felicity, but then tricks him and has her locked up in the gas chamber along with Diggle and Thea. All hope seems lost when Laurel and Macolm, dressed as the Green Arrow show up to save everyone. Lance shows up shortly after with his team and help everyone escape. Malcolm and Oliver are able to overwhelm Darhk and they place an explosive by him. Before the base blows up Darhk says an incantation that protects him from the blast. Oliver proposes to Felicity in front of the people supporting his campaign at a tree lighting and leave shortly after. Their limo is intercepted by Darhk's men who fire relentlessly at it. Oliver is able to get them away from the men, but Felicity is fatally wounded. Darhk is then shown to be spending time with his family while this is happening. The next day he shows his investors what he has working at the base. I seems to be some underground fall out shelter under the name Project Genesis. In flashbacks, Oliver returns to the ship the Amazo to acquire more maps of the island, but when he returns he is discovered by Conklin.
This mid season finale was more story driven, but there were still some pretty cool action sequences in it. There were also some pretty heavy and sad parts as well. Take a look.
Team Arrow- The team actually had to handle the situation out of their suits for the most part, with the exception of Laurel. This time they were attacked in their civilian identities and had to outsmart Darhk without giving themselves away. Good work team! You all made it out aliv......oh wait.
Oliver and Felicity- Usually the drama between these two can over take the episode, but I feel like this one did an okay job with it. They stayed with each other in the face of death and they finally got engaged. Too bad it was short lived and Felicity is going to be fighting for her life when we come back.
Oliver and Darhk- Darhk not only has a bone to pick with the Green Arrow, but he's gone after Oliver Queen as well. It must be hard to have to fight two different battles with the same villain. It's only a matter of time until Damien puts two and two together, if he doesn't already have an idea. He definitely hit Oliver really hard this episode, literally and emotionally.
Oliver and Laurel- When the team gets taken by Malcolm Oliver and Laurel were all that were left. She assured him that Digglle, Thea and Felicity would be okay and that they would save them. Laurel reminded him that they were strong because of him.
Oliver and Malcolm-These two have been pretty good at keeping away from each other until all these mystical folk started showing up. Malcolm may have saved Oliver, but he's got something bad planned.
Laurel, Thea and Malcolm- This is probably the most unconventional team, but hey they saved everyone didn't they. The banter between the three was pretty funny and we hope that they do this again.
Diggle and Andy- By the looks of the things, these two will never be able to patch things up. Even out of Darhk's influence Andy remains stubborn and unapologetic for all the crimes he committed. Diggle didn't want give up on his brother and gave him a chance to redeem himself, to no avail. Hopefully Andy comes to his senses and tries to start a new.
Laurel and Quentin-We feel like they could have handled the whole "you never told me you were working for Darhk" thing off camera. It only shows how poor the communication is between these characters. Detective Lance finally lets his daughter spread her wings and soar so that she could save the team from certain death. He even shows up with his own team to help out. Awesome.
Malcolm and Thea- Laurel and her father have a more stable relationship than these two. Even so, Malcolm does everything he can to make sure that his daughter is safe. It still doesn't make him a good guy, just a good father. One that lines up people for his daughter to kill to relieve her blood lust. He came through for the team this episode though.
The Darhk Squad-There was something way off with this group of people. I know Damien's a bad guy, but he is so much more colorful than his friends. I wonder what it is they are working on.
Curtis and Felicity- It's about time Curtis show up to lighten up the mood. We are finally introduced to his husband and a pretty awkward conversation with Oliver and Felicity ensues. This scene was Terrific. He....he....he...
Lance and Mama Smoak- All the other interactions were pretty serious so we had to put one that was a little more funny. These two are adorable and Felicity's reaction to seeing the two was priceless.
Genesis- Damien and his acquaintances talk about Genesis. It looks like he is trying to create a new world underneath Star City with breathable air and corn. With his character tied to primordial energy we can all assume that his plan will be something bigger than just redecorating Star City. This will be explained further in another post, but team Arrow is about to be way out of their league should our theory play out in some way on the show.
New 52- Good old channel 52 making it's appearance.
What's to Come/Theories:
They definitely left us with a cliffhanger and we will have to wait until we come back in January to see what Felicity's fate is. A lot of people believe that this is going to be a fake out and that it will be someone else in the grave. Diggle, Thea, Samantha, and his son William are the only other people I could really see Oliver breaking down completely over. People have died and come back to life on this show, so whoever it is better stay that way to have a lasting impact. What we are a lot more excited about is Damien's plans and his project Genesis. What could it be that Damien is preparing for? For the sake of this post we will have to elaborate on some theories we have for this show and the grand scheme that will tie all of the stories of the DCTV line up together.
The odds were stacked against our heroes and they somewhat got through it all. From start to finish it was a roller coaster ride that just didn't seem to see the light at the end of tunnel, Everyone is left in a pretty darhk place in the end. This episode had what it needed to wrap up the half season and leave us with enough questions to hold is over until it comes back. With that being said I want to put this picture below to end on a somewhat happier note. What did you think about the episode? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
