Before they caught the acting bug, it's difficult to imagine that Hollywood actors and actresses actually had intentions to pursue slightly different lives. In fact, many of the following men and women intended on doing something completely different with their careers!
From marine biologists and architects to lion tamers and funeral directors, some of the career aspirations below will definitely blow your mind:
1. Jennifer Lawrence
When she was a little girl, J Law wanted to save people's lives by becoming a doctor. These days, her dreams appear crushed as she was recently quoted as saying:
"I would like to say doctor but I know I don’t have the focus for it, so I’d probably be like an out-of-work doctor trying to illegally operate on people.”
Yeah, probably not a good idea, Jen! Better to stick to your day job, doing something like this:
2. Selena Gomez
Back in 2013, Selena confessed that if she hadn't got into the entertainment world, she would have worked at Cracker Barrel because her love for Southern food knows no bounds.
3. Kerry Washington
Before the acting bug bit, Kerry intended on becoming a marine biologist. She once revealed:
"I had this dream as a child. What I really wanted to be when I grew up was the woman in the Shamu show with the killer whale at Sea World. I studied really hard, I got into marine biology… and then I got to AP bio in high school, and I was like, ‘Forget the whale, I’ll be on stage by myself."
4. Brad Pitt
Brad used to want to pursue a career in architecture when he was younger. Yet since abandoning the idea to become an actor, he's still very passionate about the industry. In fact, Brad has since lent his celebrity status to Design e2, a series that focused on building environmentally friendly structures.
He also created the Make It Right Foundation, a charity aiming to construct sustainable and affordable housing following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Good one, Brad!
5. Steve Buscemi
Before he became an actor, Steve Buscemi was actually a pretty badass firefighter. Although he put this part of his life on hold to pursue acting, he actually returned to the force to help out during the 9/11 tragedy. Here he is as a young firefighter:
6. Angelina Jolie
Angie admits to having quite a morbid fascination as a teenager, so unsurprisingly she aspired to become a funeral director. She once explained her reasons for it, saying:
“It sounds like this very strange, eccentric, dark thing to do but in fact I lost my grandfather and was very upset with his funeral. I thought I could do better, so I got a home course when I was about 14. I did a mail-order degree.”
Despite actually getting her license, unfortunately her acting destiny called and she went on to become one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood instead. Here she is in By the Sea alongside her husband Brad:
7. Harrison Ford
Before he fully got into acting and appeared in Star Wars, Harrison Ford actually wanted to be a carpenter. In fact, he nabbed the Han Solo role when he was around George Lucas's house fixing a door and caught his attention!
8. Danny Devito
It's difficult to image that a man without tresses actually had plans to become a hairdresser once. Apparently the inspiration came around one summer, with Danny humorously revealing:
"There were all these girls around – that was a good summer, hahaha!"
I'm sure it was, Danny!
9. Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman actually had her mind set on becoming a psychologist and even did a degree in the subject at Harvard. To this day, she still aspires to practice psychology someday!
10. Sofia Vergara
The Modern Family actress actually had humble plans to dig around in people's teeth as a dental assistant back in the day. Oh how times have changed!
11. Kim Kardashian
Before Kim became the queen of social media, one half of Kimye and a mother to two children with rather eyebrow-raising names, she actually had high hopes for becoming a stylist. She even landed an internship with designer Brandy Norwood, whose brother Ray-J made her famous in that illicit sex tape.
