Batman, Terminator and Michael Myers are just a few of the high profile characters that may not make the cut! Mortal Kombat X series creator Ed Boon has spoken out about his latest character DLC and why he has not included some of the other big names.

Mortal Kombat X dropped their latest Kombat Pack last week and it was huge. Mortal Kombat X seems to be on a mission to bring all the greatest aspects from previous Mortal Kombat games and modern popular horror culture and crash them all together in one epic edition of fighting fury. Entering the Mortal Kombat X roster this time round we saw; Leatherface, the Xenomorph, Tri-Borg and Bo Rai Cho - a truly monstrous cacophony of teeth and brawn!

But following in the wake of any new big character drops comes the inevitable backlash of disgruntled fans whose favorite grizzly characters didn't make the cut. In response to this, Ed Boon has come out with a little more information about the characters they considered for Mortal Kombat X's second Kombat Pack that didn't make the grade.

"For instance: Michael Meyers from the Halloween franchise," he added. "We talked about that at one point but it just never kind of panned out."

Speaking with IGN, Boon said that the studio considered a "whole bunch of names,". They looked at both the fan feedback and game practicality to help steer their decisions.

Game characters must be in keeping with the theme of Mortal Kombat X - this version seems to focus heavily on the horror genre, so characters like The Terminator wouldn't make the cut here. He's badass, but not a monster.

"For various reasons--whether it wasn't a match, or we just couldn't come to terms with it--they didn't happen. We're always exploring a lot more than we actually end up doing."

Batman to lead the charge for DC?

Boon also addressed the players' desire for Batman to be included in the line up - sorry Batman fans but your chances don't look good. Boon said that it is very unlikely that Batman will ever be included in Mortal Kombat's roster. The same goes for Wonder Woman, Superman or any other DC superheroes for that matter.

The problem here is that Mortal Kombat X is brutal, it's a no holds barred fight to the death. Superheroes on the whole tend not to rip out people's spines or tear people's hearts out. DC will not want fans to witness their lovable heroes turning to the dark side.

"Mortal Kombat is a lot more of a brutal thing, picking up and going across the way to one side, but not the other side," he said. "I doubt we'll see Batman or any of those characters in a Mortal Kombat game."

Story Mode?

So far, Mortal Kombat X's DLCs have all been concerned with introducing new and improved fighters to the game, which I love. Now, before you begin to worry, this is not set to stop anytime soon - players can rest assured that there is still a great chance that their favorite gruesome characters will still be granted access to the arena.

But many gamers are asking if there will also be a story mode DLC created for the game. Boon said that this particular avenue has certainly not been ruled out and they definitely have plans that relate to a new story line, but they were concentrating on their initial character drops first.

"We've talked about it," Boon said. "It's a lot of data, a lot of content, but that's absolutely part of a long-term plan. People really tend to love our story modes, so to be able to give them new content is always something we're hoping to work out."

More to come!

It would seem that Mortal Kombat X is the game that just keeps on giving - with the latest character DLC releasing next month and the promise of more evil icons to come, this is certainly a game to invest in. Boon has promised more content, more characters and even more blood - Mortal Kombat X is a monstrous creation and certainly one to watch for 2016!

So, we know now that the likelihood is that we will not be seeing any real superheroes appearing in Mortal Kombat X, but they didn't say anything about super-villains. We may yet see any number of DC bad guys hit the roster.

NetherRealm have free rein on total badassery when it comes to Mortal Kombat X - pick an iconic bad guy and let them loose. Carnage and mayhem is what it is all about in Mortal Kombat!

Using this premise and knowing what you now know - who would you have next in 'Mortal Kombat X'?
