So since the last two trailers for Batman V Superman, everyone has been perplexed as to what was going on in the bizarre desert battle between Batman and supposedly Superman's minions. Now this all seemed extremely strange since throughout the sequence Superman was shown as an antagonist and a dictator. This was so unlike the source material, that some fans thought it must be a dream sequence...and they were right! The whole scene is just played out in Batman's head. My source? The costume designer for the movie, Michael Wilkinson, said this:

"Zack had a great idea of this sort of nightmare-ish vision, almost a vision of the future, a post-apocalyptic vision. It's like a dream that Ben has, so we wanted to, it has almost a Mad Max quality to it where it's like the end of the world, trying to survive and then of course Superman and his minions come, so it's sort of a way of representing the amazing amounts of, the sort of obsessive quality that Bruce Wayne has about the threat of Superman."

We can all take a sigh of relief...or can we? I wasn't long ago that another crew member of the movie told a lie, but I see no reason as to why he would lie. What possible context could justify Superman turning into a dictator and creating his own Task Force? So, what does this mean? Well, it means several things, but the main takeaway is to show audiences that Batman is paranoid. In the comicbooks, Batman is so paranoid that he has contingency plans for every member of the Justice League...even himself!

Batman's paranoia could be a major plot point in a future DC movie (a Tower of Babbel adaption).

The other major takeaway is that this is Batman's nightmare, not anyone else's. Why do I say this? Well, because of this:

So if it's Batman's nightmare...how does he have a nightmare about Parademons, the minions of one of the most powerful villains in all of DC? The simple answer is that, those aren't parademons and are just generic aliens that he imagines. But could it be that in the twenty years of being Batman, the he has encountered these creatures before in Gotham? That question will hopefully be answered on March 25th 2016.
