Occupied is a short film that takes place almost entirely inside of a bathroom stall. But why exactly did we choose this location?

Now, you may laugh at this idea, but the bathroom is a very sacred place. Just think about it, it's one of the few places where no one ever bothers you! To many of us, it's a safe haven, a refuge from the outside world to be alone for a few minutes. We felt it only seemed right to use this unassuming location as the setting for our second short horror film.

'Occupied'

Production

Occupied basically wrote itself the minute we saw the location. The office that we filmed at was built in 1914 and lent itself perfectly for horror. Its long dark hallways and creaky hardwood floors offered some of the best natural visuals and sound effects we could have asked for. From there it just came down to finding the right person for the role.

Just like our first horror short, The Lullaby, we wanted to tell the story with minimal dialogue. In contrast, we aimed to give the viewer a sense of being watched by relying on cinematography and sound design to increase the tension.
