There is no denying that sex sells, but despite a lot of the celebs below having erotically charged images, there are some virtuous stars out there who have made the highly personal decision to remain a virgin until marriage.
While for many it is a question of faith, some simply believe in good old fashioned romance and the value of finding a partner who is thoroughly in love with more than just bodily sensations.
Below are 13 of these strong-willed stars who still believe in old fashioned principles, despite mainstream pressure, and you might be surprised about some of the people who are still waiting for the right partner.
13. Taylor Lautner
The Twilight heartthrob might have captivated hundreds of thousands of teenage girls with his rippling six pack and strokable face, but he has alluded to the fact he is saving himself for marriage on more than one occasion. In his own words, he is, "waiting for the right girl.” And, it doesn't seem like he's found her yet so there is still hope for #TeamJacob.
12. Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson famously waited until her marriage at the age of 22 to lose her virginity to her then husband, Nick Lachey, but her choice isn't particularly surprising considering her father was a Texan Baptist Minister. Jessica was given her purity ring by him age 12 in a special ceremony and she later explained that:
"I promised God, my father and my future husband that I would remain a virgin until I got married. I just always knew it was something I wanted to do."
Simpson was still wearing the ring when she got married in 2002, but her attitudes changed when she and her first husband got divorced and she has since had two children out of wedlock.
11. Kirk Cameron
Kirk Cameron is just as famous for being open about his evangelical Christian beliefs as he is for his movie career and he waited until he got married at the age of 20 to lose his virginity to his wife, Chelsea Noble. He once explained in an interview that:
"Sex within marriage is the only kind that’s truly fun and exciting — the kind that lasts for a lifetime. I’m glad I waited."
10. Adriana Lima
Brazilian Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima waited until her marriage at the age of 27 to sleep with her husband, Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric.
The well-known model has spoken out multiple times about her decision to remain a virgin until she found the right man (probably because people can't help but equate her job to sex), and she once said:
"They [Men I am dating] have to respect that this is my choice. If there’s no respect, that means they don’t want me."
9. Sarah Drew
Sarah Drew's character on Grey's Anatomy was a devoutly Christian doctor who struggled with becoming a born-again virgin, but she was much more successful in real life. She has even Tweeted about her decision to wait for marriage!
8. Terrance Howard (Kind Of...)
Like with pretty much anything that Terrance Howard says (especially if he brings up math...) this should probably be taken with a pinch of salt, but the star has said that he doesn't have sex outside of marriage for a very unusual reason.
Although he has been married four times, Howard has claimed that he wouldn't sleep with anyone outside wedlock because this rule allows him to date multiple women without anyone getting hurt. Okay then...
7. Courtney Stodden
Courtney Stodden might not be known for her pure and virginal image these days, but she did wait until marriage... Even if she was only 16 when she wed her husband, actor Doug Hutchison, who was 51 years old at the time.
6. Carrie Underwood
In 2007, the American Idol alum told Slate that she planned to abstain from sex until her wedding night, due to her Christian faith. She wed her husband Michael Fisher three years later.
5. Kevin Jonas
Although his younger brothers ended up breaking their famous purity pledges, Kevin Jonas managed to remain abstinent until his wedding night. He once explained that:
“My ring represents a promise to myself and to God that I’ll stay pure until marriage."
Apparently all of the fervor over remaining celibate made his first sexual experience underwhelming (aren't they all?!), he told reporters that:
"After we did it, I was kind of like, that's it?"
4. Kathie Lee Gifford
In her autobiography, Kathie Lee Gifford wrote that she believed true love waited and held out until marriage. She was 22 when she got hitched to her first husband, Paul Johnson.
3. Julianne Hough
Julianne Hough was brought up Mormon and she still considers herself part of the faith even though she "may not be as active in it as some people are." One part of her upbringing that has stayed with her is the idea of refraining from sex before marriage though, when asked about her decision she explained:
"I'm not trying to preach consequences here, but I think when you say no, down the line, it will be a better decision."
2. Zac Hanson
Anyone who was teenybopping around in the mid '90s like me will remember Zac Hanson as the adorable littlest brother in the hairtastic Hanson, but now he is all grown up and talking sex and marriage.
The drummer was very diplomatic about his decision to save himself for his wedding night though, and he doesn't think it's for everyone. He explained:
"Everybody’s got their own preference. I’m not telling everybody 'Don’t go have premarital sex.' I’m just saying that I didn’t, and that seemed like the right thing to do for me."
1. Meagan Good
Meagan Good has been so vocal about her decision to remain abstinent that she even wrote a book about it with her husband, DeVon Franklin, entitled 'The Wait.' She explained her choice to Jimmy Kimmel by saying:
"Spiritually, I believe its [remaining abstinent] what I should have done, and so, I was like, 'You know, I'm going to try it this way.'"
