Director Marcin Wrona was found dead unexpectedly on September 18 this year. He was newly married and only 42. 2015 was a big year for Wrona, whose amazing possession horror Demon debuted to great acclaim at Toronto International Film Festival, Sitges and Berlin Fantasy Film Fest.
Check out the trailer for Wrona's last movie, the stunningly realized Polish horror Demon.
Demon is an unconventional take on the ancient myth of the Dybbuk, a restless spirit which attaches itself to a living person. The movie is set at a sumptuously filmed Polish wedding, where young groom Piotr is taken over by the spirit of a dead girl.
Wrona's final movie is a beautiful testament to his talents as a filmmaker. TIFF released a statement following his death:
“We are all deeply shocked and saddened at the news of the sudden death of Marcin Wrona. His film ‘Demon’ truly marked the emergence of a strong new voice on the world cinema stage.
Our thoughts go out to his friends and family, especially his wife and producing partner, Olga Szymanska, who was with him at the premiere in Toronto.”
