Earlier this year, Selena Gomez dropped a bombshell when she spoke candidly about a medical condition that she's been secretly dealing with for years -- in October, the 'Revival' star admitted to having been diagnosed with lupus, a chronic disease in which the immune system attacks parts of the body, leading to a variety of severe symptoms such as fatigue, fever, joint pain, rashes and chest pain.

Speaking to Billboard a few months back, Selena had to defend the fact that she took some time off last year, with many suggesting it was due to drug addiction. Hitting back at her critics and the preposterous rumors, she finally set the record straight regarding her unexpected hiatus, revealing:

"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again."

A couple of months on, and we are glad to hear that Selena finally feels better than ever!

"I am in a great place and I'm very healthy"

In a new interview with Billboard, she confirmed that her lupus is now under control and updated her fans on her latest status, saying:

"I waited for the right time to talk about it because I am in a great place and I'm very healthy. I'm not trying to be loud about it: It was time to use my platform to help."

"It's been overwhelming"

Reaching out to her loyal fans, Selena also expressed her gratitude for all the support in this difficult time, revealing:

"It has been overwhelming and the response has been very supportive, which is nice. But it still makes me a little uncomfortable."

Naturally, living with a chronic disease or disorder is never easy, but it is wonderful that Selena has been so honest and open about her condition. By speaking about her own experiences, she's not only become stronger as a person, but also reassured others that life goes on past disease!

Continue being an incredible role model Selena!
