Oh fan theories, never change.
The latest insane fan theory to surface on Reddit is this Scooby-Doo theory that claims the Great Dane we all know and love is actually a super-intelligent special breed escaped from the Soviet Union. It sounds crazy at first, but it kind of makes sense.
The show premiered during the Cold War
Scooby Doo, Where Are You! was first seen on screen in 1969, when the Cold War was still going strong. More importantly, this was around the time America and the Soviet Union were racing to send people up into space. The show aired only a few months after America successfully managed to send Neil Armstrong and his crew to the moon, but before any man entered space... there were dogs.
Why can Scooby-Doo talk?
I'm sure you're all familiar with the infamous space-dog Laika, the stray canine that was sent into space by the Soviet Union.
Well, according to this theory, Scooby-Doo was also a dog the Soviets were experimenting on. The Reddit user hypothesizes that he was part of a program where they were trying to make super-intelligent dogs, and as a result of this Scooby-Doo learns how to speak. Somehow he managed to escape, ends up in America (where better to go during the Cold War) and meets Shaggy and the gang. The Soviet Union obviously wants him back, which is why the show is called Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
As I said, it kind of makes sense! If you want to read the original Reddit post just click on this link.
