The Legend of Zelda has a long history of excellence. But it's not only limited to its fantastic dungeons, memorable characters, and superb gameplay! The Legend of Zelda series has some of the most beautiful music in the industry, and seeing as we've been listening to a ton of it lately, we thought we'd write up a little piece to celebrate its legacy.
The Legend of Zelda Wii U has a tremendous amount of pressure upon its shoulders. The art style is already beautiful, but can its gameplay live up to the hype? Can the dungeons match what has come before? And can its music dazzle us like these pieces still do?
Zelda Wii U: Can You Best These Ten Legend of Zelda Music Themes?
WHERE TO BEGIN?! Ranking these themes is almost impossible. Depending on your mood, one theme may move you more than another. But they're all nostalgic wonders and we'd love to hear which one you love the most. Therefore, let's move on and start with this list!
- Lost Woods/Saria's Song - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
I can never seem to get this theme out of my head. I'll be walking around the gothic landscapes of Bloodborne and despite the gloom and horror, this theme will still pop into my head. It's an adorable little wonder and one of my favorites. Here's a link to 10 hours of it. You're welcome.
- Midna's Lament - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
This mysterious piece encapsulates a very unusual individual in the history of the Zelda franchise. Twilight Princess had a very focused narrative, and the depth of Midna's character is one of the most engaging aspects of the series. There's an alien mystery to this theme, and I love how it transports you to a strange place.
- The Song of Storms - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
One of the most memorable themes in the history of the franchise, The Song of Storms is indicative of why we love Ocarina. Music was infused within the gameplay of this title and I can't help but see someone dancing in the rain to this fantastic piece of music.
- Song of Healing - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The dark, sombre tone of Majora's Mask has always made it stand out in The Legend of Zelda series, in fact, that's why it's my favorite installment. The Song of Healing is indicative of this game's mood, one that is mysterious and sombre. I adore this song and how it captures the wonder of Majora's Mask.
- Gerudo Valley - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Infused with a Latin beat, Gerudo Valley has one of the coolest songs in the history of The Legend of Zelda. The theme is also a throwback to the work of Morricone in some of cinema's seminal spaghetti Westerns. What a theme!
- Hidden Village - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Speaking of spaghetti Westerns, Hidden Village is basically pulled from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It features the whistling, the galloping drum beat, and the crazy sounds of a Jew's harp. Sit back and enjoy the image of Link as Clint Eastwood.
- Credits - The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Drawing inspiration from Celtic themes, the credit music from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker can't help but remind you of the rolling hills of Scotland and Ireland. It's one of the most beautiful themes in the history of the franchise, and it has the incredible power of pulling me back to that game whenever I hear it. Now, if you'll excuse me.
- Temple Theme - Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Certainly the odd one out in the history of the Zelda franchise, Zelda II: the Adventure of Link is probably the only low point for the series (and it's not even that bad a game). However, it did gift us one of the best themes in the franchise's history - the Temple Theme. Enjoy.
- Ancient Hero - The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
My god do I love this piece of music. It's heart-wrenching and perfectly encapsulates the wonder of Wind Waker - probably the 3rd best Zelda game after Ocarina and Majora's Mask. Enjoy the beauty of Ancient Hero.
- Overworld Theme - The Legend of Zelda
- Honorable Mention: Great Fairy's Fountain - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Just to wrap things up, a great little piece from Ocarina of Time: Enjoy the Great Fairy's Fountain guys, and if you have any other themes that you think deserve to be included, let us know in the comments below! Can The Legend of Zelda Wii U rival these themes?!
