After a roaring start in its first season, [Marvel's Agent Carter](tag:1119765) is heading to Los Angeles for Season 2, ready to capture the glitz and glamour of '40s Hollywood, as well as its seedy underbelly. Season 2 is set six months after the finale of Season 1, giving Peggy plenty of time to establish herself as a valued agent within the SSR. Executive producer Tara Butters confirmed that there'll be no more fetching coffee for Peggy in Season 2.

"We don’t want to hit the same story beats. She is respected amongst her peers, and she is working an SSR case through the course of the second season."

Butters's statement definitely seems to be the case in the slew of Agent Carter Season 2 promos that ABC has released lately!

It seems we'll get one long mystery throughout Season 2, a murder that will lead into many more webs of conspiracy. So what do we know so far?

Multiple Threats

Clearly Agent Carter will have to deal with a lot when she arrives in LA, and the info we've had so far points to multiple threats for Peggy to face! Let's break them down...

Madame Masque

Masque is an ex-debutante: elegant yet lethal, she uses her brilliant intellect to invent fantastic and horrific gadgets. While they've had to adjust Masque's character for her new setting, the writers are staying true to what makes the villain so unique.

"I think we’ve changed the look of her a bit obviously. We've made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a '40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that's part of what we’re mining with this character."

Wynn Everett has been cast as the illustrious villain, who probably has ties to the murder case Peggy is investigating...

The Black Dahlia Case

We'll be getting a more "film noir" style as the writers will be following the Black Dahlia case, where an aspiring young actress was brutally murdered in 1947. The details are pretty grim, so to make a bloody story short, Elizabeth Short was found mutilated (and dead, obviously) in a vacant lot, her body drained of blood. Short's killer was never found.

In the comics, Masque is a macabre villain, and in her most recent appearance in Matt Fraction's Hawkeye series, Masque was involved in a lot of missing persons reports and murders as she built body doubles for millionaires. Creepy!

So could Masque be behind the young actress's murder? And is this part of a larger conspiracy? Yes, to both, I think it's safe to say. Good thing Peggy packed her gun!

But it looks like the conspiracy might go beyond just one villain, as the writers have teased the introduction of one of Marvel's most evil organizations...

Secret Empire

During SDCC earlier this year, Tara Butters dropped several hints about the plot for Agent Carter Season 2, confirming that one of the main antagonists would be a group known as the Secret Empire. Designed as a distraction for HYDRA, the Secret Empire is your typical bad guy group, infiltrating the US government all the way up to the White House!

This could have excellent implications for Season 2: as Peggy chases down the Secret Empire, she might not notice as HYDRA sows the seeds of discord in the SSR, building up to how they infiltrate SHIELD from even when it was just created.

Butters also dropped a pretty big hint for how this will all play into the introduction of another antagonistic element, and how this will echo out into the wider MCU...

Doctor Strange Tie-In!

Marvel is no stranger to using the TV shows to hint at developments in the movies: Agents of SHIELD Season 1 cleverly set up some of the antagonists of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the consequences of the Battle Of New York from The Avengers were evident in Daredevil. Now it looks like Marvel is planning to casually set up the Doctor Strange movie in Agent Carter Season 2...

"I can also tell you, and this is somewhat of a spoiler, there’s a thing called Darkforce, that comes from the comic book universe, which also created Blackout on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and it comes out of the Doctor Strange universe as well. That’s going to show up, causing problems for people."

First introduced in Agents of SHIELD Season 1, Darkforce is a strange type of energy that originates in a different universe – the Darkforce Dimension. Some super-powered people are able to use this energy in various ways, but the energy itself is pretty dangerous and corrupting.

According to Tara Butters, Darkforce is involved in "the Doctor Strange universe," which could just be a turn of phrase. But using the Darkforce Dimension would be a neat way to tie together some of Doctor Strange's villains with Darkforce energy, so that Agent Carter Season 2 can set up some of the plots we'll see in the Doctor Strange movie.

Of course, it's difficult to see how they'd achieve this, especially considering Agent Carter is set decades before Doctor Strange. But if the MCU has proved nothing else, it's that it knows how to tie together all of its branching shows and movies! So what would you like to see happen in Agent Carter Season 2? Let us know in the comics, or write your own post!
