Now, what with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens being only a few days away from hitting our screens, it was perhaps inevitable that a handful of major plot spoilers would make their way onto the Internet. After all, for all the will in the world on the part of Disney, J.J. Abrams and the Star Wars crew, there's really no stopping one essential pillar of spoiler-dom: merchandising.
A Piece of Merchandise May Have Just Revealed a Major 'Star Wars Episode VII' Spoiler
One which will not only be revealed below, but will be discussed in some detail. In other words?
The following contains major potential 'Star Wars' SPOILERS. As Taylor Swift and Yoda might team up to say: "Say I didn't say I didn't warn ya, do not."
Alright then. Everyone cool?
Then take a look at this newly spotted action figure, care of Star Wars Action News:
Now, on the surface, that might just seem like a pretty standard action figure of Rey, in an outfit we've only seen a little of thus far.
Look closer, though, and you might just notice something unbelievably important - and thus far kept more-or-less secret. Specifically:
Rey Is Holding Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber
Something which, it seems, confirms more than one rumored plot development. For one thing, it would certainly suggest that Harrison Ford's recent spoiler-ific Tweet was accurate, and that we will, in fact, be seeing Rey fight with a lightsaber.
More than that, though, it suggests that Rey will, in fact, most likely be a Jedi - or, at least, be in possession of some sort of force ability - which in turn substantially increases the chances of her being a Skywalker of some sort, not least because that wasn't just Luke's lightsaber. It did, after all, belong to his father before him.
What's more, with the action figure seemingly having been mistakenly distributed before the film's release (it was reportedly found in Walmart, but is tough to track down anywhere online), it would seem that the folks over at Lucasfilm considered the packaging to be sufficiently spoiler-ific to hold back until after Episode VII's December 18 arrival - which in turn seems to confirm that it is, in fact, spoiler-filled.
Or, alternatively, the whole thing is an elaborate double bluff, and part of a concerted effort by J.J. Abrams and pals to put enough misinformation out there that we don't all have the movie spoiled for us before its release.
That's what I'm still hoping for, at any rate...
