Everything is exciting in Space. If you don't believe me, watch an Astronaut try and eat custard. You'll never eat your desert in the same way again. Movies know space is fun, and what better way to reinvent a franchise than to sky rocket it to another planet?

That's exactly what producers of Machete have planned. You may remember the faux trailer, Machete Kills Again... In Space, which was at the time completely tongue-in-cheek (see below). It had it's run before Machete Kills, the 2013 follow up to the original. Well now it's getting made - for real!

Machete star Danny Trejo confirmed that far from getting the chop, there will be a third galactic version. Talking to Halloween Daily News back in April he said:

"Robert [Rodriguez] and I are going to start to do Machete Kills in Space, so that's going to be awesome. Absolutely. We're going to be working on it this year."

There is still no news on whether filming has begun, and it's coming to the end of the year, so we can only assume there have been a few hiccups along the way. But lets face it, what film doesn't face hurdles?

Machete Part Three

The original film also spawned from a fake trailer attached to Grindhouse (2007), which was directed by Rodriguez and Tarantino. It was well received critically, and performed well at the box office.

Machete Kills didn't live up to the success of its predecessor, so it'll be interesting to see if the franchise can be revived. Judging from the trailer, it'll have all its ludicrously entertaining B-Movie credentials. Furthermore, the premise is so absurd, they'd have to mess a lot up for it to lack, at the very least, entertainment value.

Danny Trejo will reprise the role of Machete Cortez, a former Mexican Federal who goes on a bloody mission of revenge after being betrayed by a man who hired him to kill a Texas senator.
