The first trailer for the Disney and Steven Spielberg adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic The BFG has dropped today, and given us our first glimpse inside the world of "the Big Friendly Giant."

Check out the clip, and then take more in-depth look at the trailer below:

Taken into a rather eerie version of London, we meet the young orphan Sophie (Ruby Barnhill), who tells audiences that contrary to what "the girls" say, she believes the witching hour begins at 3am when she's the only one left awake.

She then goes through the rules: Never get out of bed, never go to the window and never look behind the curtain, though unfortunately she seems to have forgotten all of her rules one night...

Revealing to audiences our first look at Mark Rylance as the BFG himself!

But despite his supposed friendliness, he sure doesn't come across as a very nice fellow when he reaches into Sophie's bedroom as she cowers under the covers.

And that, says Sophie, is where our story begins!

The rest of The BFG will see the 24-foot-tall BGF introduce Sophie to his homeland, Giant Country. While the BFG might be a mild mannered type, unfortunately not all giants in Giant Country are the same, namely Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) who are not only bigger than the BFG, but also much, much scarier. After Sophie's presence in Giant Country begins to attract attention, the pair set off to see Queen Victoria and warn her about the "precarious giant situation," and come up with a plan to get rid of the other giants for good.

'The BFG' will be released in US cinemas on July 1, 2016
