Suicide Squad is already proving to be one of the most interesting superhero (themed) movies of 2016: focusing on DC's villains, the film will see deranged criminals team up to save the world. Directed by The Fast & The Furious's David Ayer, and featuring a stellar cast, Suicide Squad looks set to be the pull-no-punches darkly comic counter to the hotly anticipated [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870).

With a cast full of villains, it's difficult to deduce the plot of Suicide Squad, and no role is more mysterious than the Joker. He was a menacing presence in the trailer, which dropped subtle hints about his true role in the plot...

We still don't know just why Amanda Waller assembles Task Force X, and who she wants the team to stop. Who the true villain of the story is has yet to be revealed, but Joker's certainly a strong contender for this role. And he might just be teaming up with another classic DC antagonist...

Lex & Joker In Cahoots?

Let's just get this straight: Jesse Eisenberg has not been confirmed to appear in Suicide Squad. But there have been some serious hints that he'll cameo or at the very least, his presence will be felt. This is thanks in a large part to this Tweet from David Ayer, but there have been rumors about Luthor's part in Suicide Squad since the film was announced.

Of course, if Lex is involved in Suicide Squad somehow, that doesn't mean he'd definitely be helping out Joker, but it makes a lot of sense in the context of some recent hints from the producer of the film...

A Smart Businessman

Charles Roven suggested that Joker would not be acting alone in Suicide Squad, but will be using a group of associates to assist him in whatever nefarious activities he's up to.

"He’s more social… a very successful and smart businessman besides being a sociopath."

We usually view the Joker as a lone figure, and it's true that in the DC comics he doesn't tend to play well with others. The idea of the Clown Prince of Crime being a "smart businessman" is odd, and kind of terrifying when we start to wonder what kind of business the Joker could possibly go into. It could be that this is exactly what Task Force X are sent to stop: after all, we did see a gang of Joker's goons in the trailer...

These costumed fiends are escorting Joker into a mysterious facility... so it seems that Joker does have a role in the Suicide Squad plot aside from Harley Quinn's origin story flashbacks. What that role is remains to be seen, but it's possible he's working with Lex Luthor to achieve his goals.

The Enchantress Problem

Cara Delvingne's Enchantress has also been pinpointed by many as being the villain of Suicide Squad - determined to resurrect her brother, Julie Moon becomes possessed by the demonic Enchantress when performing a ritual. And now she might be on a mission to wreck all kinds of havoc, potentially ending the world in the process. Or at least, that's what many of the recent plot rumors point towards.

If Lex Luthor really is obsessed with Meta-humans, as plot hints suggest, it's possible that he assists Joker in exchange for Enchantress. This would Suicide Squad to tie neatly together with Batman vs Superman, and such an agreement between the two villains wouldn't even require Lex to appear onscreen, which would explain his absence from any leaked set photos.

Of course, it's just a theory, but it would be cool for the villains to have a strange alliance! So what do you think of this idea? Let us know in the comments, or write your own post!
