Well, it's almost here. Just one more week until Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters. It seems like so long since that first Star Wars announcement trailer came out last fall. But finally, after Disney released one trailer every 6 months, followed by a sudden landslide of more trailers, we are finally about to witness the awakening of the force.
One of the best parts about the trailers being released, however, was the Internet hype. But I don't mean everyone getting excited. I mean the time and effort people put into recreating the trailers into truly hilarious parody trailers that somehow get us even more excited for the movie. Let's take a look at some of the best comedy trailers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens...
5. Saturday Night Live's Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser
This trailer is actually rather hilarious to watch, considering how old the original actors are. Rather than focusing on the new cast or the prequel trilogy, this is the only parody trailer on this list to make jabs at the old cast - and it is hilarious! I still can't seem to get over James Franco playing Luke using a lightsaber walker.
4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Revoiced by Brooklynites
Jimmy Kimmel decided to have fun with the final trailer for The Force Awakens on his show to demonstrate what the trailer would sound like if the characters were from Brooklyn, using Brooklyn natives. It's a lot of fun to watch and, if you've ever been in the Brooklyn area, you will realize how realistic it really is.
3. Honest Teaser - The Force Awakens
Screen Junkies is best known for its Honest Trailers, which poke fun at movies that have already come out by making an honest version of the trailer by showing different plot holes in the film. This time, however, they decided to try something different - they made an Honest Teaser, so basically an Honest Trailer for an unreleased film.
In the teaser, they focus on moving away from Star Wars' prequel trilogy by acknowledging their existence and then acknowledging the need to move on. Plus, they couldn't help but point out that we will see this movie no matter what. Twice. I can honestly say that this cleverly written parody has me even more excited for Star Wars: It's On You, Abrams.
2. Star Wars: The Binks Awakens - Trailer # 2
This one always gets me laughing, even though I'm not the biggest fan of Jar Jar Binks. Yet another parody making jabs at the prequel trilogy, this trailer includes fan not-so-favorite Jar Jar Binks in just about every shot. And where there's no Jar Jar, there's either a reference to The Phantom Menace or, appropriately, the inclusion of George Lucas. Even if you don't like Jar Jar Binks, I'm sure you can tolerate him for about two minutes to watch this truly hilarious parody trailer.
1. Star Wars: Episode VII Trailer - George Lucas' Special Edition
Though it was one of the original parody trailers, this one still never gets old for me. Like almost all of the other parody trailers, this one in particular pokes fun at the excessive special effects George Lucas used during the prequel trilogy and the Special Editions of the original trilogy. It takes the first Force Awakens trailer and fills it with everything George Lucas would probably use if he got his hands on the film - excessive CGI, Dewbacks, more blades on the lightsaber, Hayden Christensen, and the redundant inclusion of trade negotiations. Though it may have been one of the first, it is still the best Force Awakens parody trailer - at least to me.
