It's coming around to that time of year again, the time when Christmas Day and New Years Eve flash before your eyes and the air is filled with comments like, "This year went so fast!", "I can't believe that happened a year ago!" and "Where did the time go?" Then, to help you visualize just exactly how you've whittled the past 12 months away, Facebook collates all your uploaded and tagged images and puts them into your very own 'Year in Review', whether you like it or not.
Thankfully, this 'Year in Review' isn't instantly available to all your avidly awaiting Facebook friends. So, rather than slamming your wall full of pictures of you completely and dementedly wasted, you're able to edit and change the content, so your followers only see you sporting your most flattering angles, unlike this poor chick:
Tech Mic has done a nice little breakdown, to show you how to tackle this potential street-cred destroyer with ease:
"Facebook Year in Review should appear on user's news feeds automatically. Users can also find it by scrolling to the end of a friend's Year of Review and clicking "View Now."
2. Tackle & Destroy
"After a user reviews their personal collection selected by Facebook, they can scroll down and click "customize" to swap out the unsavory photos with other photos to create a more favorable image to share with friends. Users can also add sections and change photo captions."
3. Bask in self-curated social glory
"The user can click the "Share" button in the top right corner of the Year in Review to post it to their timeline. Users can also customize who will see it when shared."
Still a bit confused? Maybe a few examples from Fast and Furious Facebooker Vin Diesel could help?
Exhibit 1: Nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar
Thought: Eh, pretty cool to be nominated, but I didn't win. So lets scrap this for some of the better stuff.
Exhibit 2: The birth of his third child
Thought: Major life event, definitely include. Plus look how cute I am!
Exhibit 3: 'Furious 7' kicking 'Frozen' box office butt
Thought: Can I put this in twice?
Exhibit 4: Paul Walker Tribute
Thought: It hasn't been an easy year, despite everything. People should know :'(
Exhibit 4: 'Dad Bod'
Thought: Image SWAP: dad bod pap shot = out, 6-pack angles = in ;)
