We've discussed it before, and we still find it odd. Why is it that male actors are always paired with significantly younger female costars? While there are plenty of relationships in which a man might be much older than the woman, it seems to be a pretty typical pattern that barely varies.

The following actors will be appearing in films that are set to come out during the remainder of this year and next year. Let's take a look and see just how much of a trend this pairing has become over the years.

Harrison Ford

Upcoming films: Untitled Blade Runner project, Indiana Jones 5, Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Past films stats:

In Ford's first notable film with a love interest (1999's Random Hearts) he was 57 years old while his costar Kristin Scott Thomas was 39. In general, Ford's film lovers have been at least fifteen years younger than him.

The biggest age gap was in Six Days Seven Nights in which Anne Heche was a whopping 26 years younger than Ford.

Steve Carell

Upcoming films: Battle of the Sexes, Acme, Untitled Woody Allen project

Past films stats:

In general, Carell has been matched up women that are around his age like Tina Fey and Julianne Moore.

However, films like Get Smart, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone included significantly young actresses that are around twenty years younger than him.

Johnny Depp

Upcoming films: London Fields, Yoga Hosers, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes

Past films stats:

A majority of Depp's love interests have been age 27 or younger. This includes actresses like Winona Ryder, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, and Kiera Knightley.

In face, the only two love interests (Juliette Binchoche and Angelina Jolie) that were of age were in their mid-thirties and already had an Oscar under their belts.

I found this an all-too common occurrence in films, and quite honestly, it makes me feel as if I'm not supposed to age. Aging is beautiful, natural, and a woman can wear it just as well as any male (Helen Mirren anybody?)

While there are stories that do call for a large age gap, I believe it's time we let film actually replicate reality, including love interests that are closer in age.
