Following a devastating kick to the head by Holly Holm which inevitably lost Ronda Rousey the Bantamweight title in UFC 193, there’s really no surprise that Rousey would want a rematch. And that's exactly what she is going to get. UFC 200 is set to take place on July 9, 2016 at the new arena in Las Vegas. Rousey will face Holm, who is the first and only fighter to beat her.
If that date seems like it’s right around the conner, it's because it is. Regardless of Rousey wanting a chance to take back her title, the question comes back to whether or not she will be ready to face Holm again is such short order.
Dana White, UFC President and friend of Rousey, believes it “would be unwise to do anything other than give Rousey an immediate shot at redemption."
Although both fighters want a rematch, Lenny Fresquez, Holm’s manager, doubts Rousey’s will be ready by the July 9th date. Fresquez told the Los Angeles Times:
I’m not sure Ronda will be ready for a July fight. She took a severe beating and I don’t think it’s in her best interest to take the next fight so fast. They told me she’s been ready and cleared, but …
Going on to say that in the interim Holm’s could defend her title against top ranking fighter Miesha Tate with the belief that "the No. 1 contender is there for a reason. … [Tate] deserves a shot, but it’s not for me to decide.” It was also thought that a fight for Rousey to boost her confidence would make her more ready to face Holm in the Octagon.
Holm’s camp voicing their concerns have done little to change the mind of White and the UFC. Rousey believes she will be ready for the rematch and they're going to give her one.
But what do you think?
