It was going to be a matter of time before this Oscar-winner was going to be in a superhero or even join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Variety is reporting that Cate Blanchett is in talks with Marvel studio for the role of the main villain in their upcoming studio film.
Even though Blanchett is no stranger to the sci-fi or fantasy world of movies, having played Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, this will be her very first superhero movie. There were rumors steering around that Warner Bros. had eyes on her to play a part in the upcoming studio film, Wonder Woman but she ultimately passed on the offer.
This all leaves us with questions on who her character will be. Rumor has it that the upcoming Marvel film will feature three new female characters from the comics: The Enchantress (who I think she will rock at it, it's a mix of the wicked step-mother from Cinderella and Galadriel), Hela; the Asgardian goddess of death, or a heroic Valkyrie - although playing a Valkyrie may be a smaller role for Cate Blanchett. I think Ms. Blanchett will rock at either being Hela or The Enchantress, she will nail both roles.
Thor: Ragnarok is to be directed by Taika Waititi, who recentely directed the mockumentary, What We Do In The Shadows. Chris Hemsworth is set to return as Thor. No word on Tom Hiddleston yet but saying how Thor: The Dark World ended, we may see Loki returning soon. Mark Ruffalo is also joining the cast as the Hulk in the upcoming film.
Thor: Ragnarok is slated to hit theaters on November 3, 2017
