We're getting closer to the cabin, however Ash and the gang had to deal with the possessed Lam in this episode and a military group that reasonably thought the end of the world was nigh. That's right, Lam was set loose in the woods and despatched with gory detail various members of the milita, before having a match up with Ash and Amanda. 'Fire in the Hole' also brought back Ruby from the dead, threw in tons of gore, relationships grew and we got to see Ash's deadite hand.
SLAUGHTER BY THE LAM
Oh man, how gory was this episode of Ash vs The Evil Dead? It had to rank as arguably the bloodiest. It all started bang at the beginning when the group had entered the woods and were met by a dead corpse and a dying man. Guts ripped out, Ash and the group try to help before the local military intervene and then hold them against their will taking the groups weapons. Right now there not just fighting deadites.
THE RESURRECTION OF RUBY
Ruby comes out of the ashes so to speak, but what the hell does all of this mean? Initially we thought Ruby was human, but after being thrown into fire, disappearing and then returning unscathed, that theory must be thrown out of the window. So Ruby remains a mystery. Oh and I'm sure all of you went "oohh" at seeing Lucy Lawless na-ked!
"A WEEK AGO I WAS HAVING A BURGER WITH MY PARTNER AND NOW EVERYTHING IS UPSIDE DOWN"
So say's Amanda as she and Ash are handcuffed by the over zealous military troops and thrown down a basement shaft, apparently left to die. Whilst Pablo and Kelly escape into the woods. Ash and Amanda have company with the deadite Lam on the loose and between them tackling the demon Ash lets his feelings known to Amanda. Now Ash isn't subtle so when he says, "I will destroy you", you kind of know where he's coming from. Amanda is swept in though, however is this out of fear or true love?
MEANWHILE KELLY AND PABLO ARE...
Fighting an awesomely horrible deadite homage to My Bloody Valentine?! Ok, well he kind of saved them since it smashed the hell out of the two milita guards holding them. But now its climbed on to the jeep and ready to kill Kelly, can Pablo save the day? Well he gets loose and drives the jeep away with the deadite hanging out the back before reversing multiple times and squishing the deadite to death. Now they just need the gas mask on the deadite as to disguise Pablo and help Ash and Kelly out. But anyway back to relationships and whilst Ash and Amanda's was hotting up it was clear to see that Pablo and Kelly's wasn't. However a strong friendship has formed.
THE 'MY BLOODY VALENTINE' REFERENCE?
Remember that reverse into the tree we talked about above? Well here's the effect and this is a hilarious scene to boot. Because this deadite isn't quite dead and Pablo really doesn't want that mask. After he goes to grab it, deadite comes alive and it takes a panicky Kelly multiple shots to finally kill it. By the end its head is hanging off which is quite handy for Pablo to take the mask from.
I guess the clue was all in the episodes title, 'Fire in the Hole', but episode 7 was dominated by the theme of fire. Early on Kelly mentions that she would love to own a flamethrower. Ruby rises from the ashes, Ash and Amanda almost get 'hot' together, Lam wants to burn Ash and Amanda and even spits fire and at the end Pablo launches a missile and randomly blows up something. This episode was indeed HOT HOT HOT!
At the episode's climax Ash takes a step back and sees Pablo, Kelly and Amanda all armed up, confident and ready to kick deadite ass. He is burning inside with pride but tells them that he doesn't want to see any of them killed and they are all in his hearts. He senses that if they all continue this journey together they won't survive. With that he disappears, and the group are wondering where he went.
THE HAND AND THE CABIN
Finally we see Ash's hand which has escaped from Ruby's car and made its journey to the cabin. It almost feels like it is keyed into Ash's thoughts and the two will reunite together where it all started all those years ago. Can Ash banish the evil dead once and for all?
