“You are all my children. And you're lost, because you follow blind leaders. But I am here now. I’m here for you…”
Prepare for the Apocalypse. X-Men franchise director Bryan Singer will once again helm the latest X-Men film for 20th Century Fox. The movie is slated to come out on May 27th, 2016. The X-Men will once again be put to the test as they will have to come together to not only face their toughest challenge yet but also have to deal with the four horsemen of Apocalypse.
Last year's [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](tag:203942) placed the franchise in a new direction while erasing all of the events that have taken place AFTER the 2000 film X-Men. With X-Men: Days of Future Past being a solid hit for the series, expectations are undeniably high for Bryan Singer’s next installment. The latest teaser trailer may not have given us enough plot points for the film but it has generated a lot of buzz of what we can expect from the movie. Here are “5 BIG Reveals From the X-Men: Apocalypse Teaser Trailer.” But before you continue reading, check out the trailer one more time!
#1. Apocalypse WILL NOT Look Like Ivan Ooze
I’m growing tired of all the hate surrounding Apocalypse’s look. Sure the photos we had back in July showcased a purplish looking Apocalypse without all of the necessary CGI effects used to bring him to life. Fans said the same thing about Quicksilver’s look from X-Men: Days of Future Past, and he single-handedly stole the movie. Audiences were not expecting him to become such a beloved character whose screen time lasted less than ten minutes. Fans are now looking forward to seeing what can possibly top that famous kitchen scene Singer gave us.
Singer recently mentioned how difficult it was to film Even Peters’s scenes for the upcoming film: “There’s one sequence that took one and a half months to shoot for three minutes of film. It involves the most complex camera moves, very sophisticated explosive algorithms, 3D Phantom cameras travelling at 50mph while shooting at 3,100 frames per second. Evan worked more days on this movie than any other actor because of this one sequence.” –ew.com
When asked about the backlash the fans have given him on the appearance of Apocalypse, Singer responded bluntly saying, “That was a picture, and there were no visual effects. He’s a very powerful and imposing character and Oscar acts the shit out of it.”-Empire Magazine
I have absolutely no doubt that Singer will bring this character justice. Singer is a massive fan of this franchise (why else would he want to direct a 4th entry?). Oscar Isaac has tremendous talent as an actor and can certainly pull off this famous X-Men villain. From his voice to his looks, I believe we have nothing to worry about the character. Let’s all go in with an open mind and judge it when we see it.
#2. Apocalypse Shows Off His Powers
While this scene from the trailer may indeed be a dream sequence, I think it’s safe to say that Apocalypse will certainly grow at some point in the film. In the comics Apocalypse has numerous powers including superhuman strength, endurance and longevity, energy manipulation, technopathy, transmutation, DNA manipulation, and of course molecular manipulation which gives him the ability to grow in size. Apocalypse also has the power of immortality which may be the primary reason why he’s lasted for so many years.
It’s safe to say that Bryan Singer is sticking with the comics just like he has done with all of his X-Men characters. Apocalypse will be the strongest and very first mutant to have ever walked the earth. The X-Men are in BIG trouble (literally) and must team up to take down this foe.
#3. The CIA Have Been Keeping Apocalypse a Secret
“Ever since the world found out about mutants, there have been secret societies who see them as some kind of second coming or sign of god. They believe that tens of thousands of years ago an ancient being was born the worlds first… mutant.”
X-Men: First Class star Rose Byrne reprises her role as Moira MacTaggert who now appears to be working for the CIA. She apparently has some background knowledge of who Apocalypse was and is shedding some light on the topic for both Alex Summers and Charles Xavier. Moira shows them both some files collected over the years of people who may have had personal connections to their “god.” Apocalypse has reawakened and is none too pleased how the world is and are treating the mutant race.
In the trailer Apocalypse proclaims,
“Everything they’ve built, will fall! And from the ashes of their world, we’ll build a better one!”
Apocalypse will do everything he can to make things right according to HIS plan and his plan only even if it means to destroy EVERYTHING and start a new.
#4. Mystique Will Lead the X-Men
The conclusion of X-Men: Days of Future Past had us all gripping the ends of our seats as we witnessed Raven make the ultimate decision of life or death. With the future Sentinals bearing down on the remaining X-Men, Raven made the choice not to murder former president Richard Nixon. By dropping the gun she had in her hand, Mystique prevented the future annihilation of the world from happening. Now she will have to do so again this time without the help of her best friend.
In the trailer, we saw glimpses of Xavier fighting Apocalypse both physically and mentally. With Apocalypse overpowering him it appears as though he will gain the upper hand of Cerebro. As you can see in the image below, Charles pupils turn a pitch black giving us the assumption that he will be overcome and knocked out from the likes of Apocalypse.
Charles exclaims, “I’ve never felt power like this before.” This cannot be a good sign for the professor and will certainly be down for the count. It is now up to Mystique to take over command of the young X-Men.
When informed by a young Cyclops who says, “Not all of us can control our powers,” Mystique immediately answers saying, “Then don’t. This is war.”
Mystique will clearly become the new leader of the X-Men for the time being. Hopefully it won’t be long before Charles can recuperate because the X-Men need him by their side.
#5. The Reveal of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse
Back in July we learned who the four horsemen of Apocalypse would be. Those four would include a young Storm, Angel (who will become Archangel), Psylocke, and of course Magneto. Moira mentions to Havok in the trailer that, “Wherever this being was, he always had four followers he would imbue with power.” These four beings would change over time as he would recruit mutants to fight on his side.
It’s interesting to note here that Apocalypse has been around prior to Biblical events. When Havok tells Moira that this mutant may have gotten the idea directly from the Bible, she responds saying, “Or the Bible got it from him.” In other words, Apocalypse may have been around much longer than Havok initially thought.
The X-Men are in serious trouble. Not only will they have to deal with the most powerful mutant to ever live, but they will also have to stop the four mutants or horsemen who will be fighting on his side. This will certainly be a challenge for the young X-Men to face but if they all work together, they can defeat Apocalypse once and for all.
[X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267) will be the conclusion to the First Class trilogy but it will also be the beginning of a new chapter in the X-Men universe. Are you excited for X-Men: Apocalypse? What other parts of the trailer stood out to you? Please share your thoughts and comment down below.
